Lower chronic severe right leg pain

Posted by msladytee7 @msladytee7, Apr 9 1:09am

Hello, my name is MsLadyTee7, I am new to the group and very glad to be here. I have severe lower right leg pain and been experiencing it for over a year, went to several doctors which one did MRI and showed that bulging disc was pressing on the sciatic nerve and that causes excruciating pain in my lower right leg. Thru prescribed me every medication in the book to give me some relief but nothing has helped. This for of pain in my leg burns, pinches and throbs constantly limiting my ability to stand or walk sometimes only minutes at a time. I am in constant pain and wonder if anyone else is experiencing this issue or something similar and if so what have you relief. I don't know how much longer I can continue to function with this type of pain in my leg. Please if anyone have any suggestions or answers please respond. Thank you all so much and again in so glad to be a part of this group.

Good day
I am very sorry to hear what you are going through. Since you had an MRI and the dx is a bulging disc
what is the MD’s plan of care? Have they referred you to pain management or neurosurg? Usually they will start with PT, then epidural injections, ablation and if none of these help surgery. In today’s healthcare you MUST be your own advocate……do your own research, read your chart especially the MD progress note, and if necessary find another provider and another provider until you are no longer in pain.
I truly understand what you are going through, I am a provider myself and I am also a patient that had a similar situation and I had to take it upon myself to find a provider that listened and finally did surgery. Again please be your own advocate !!!!!!

@ginger123 cortisone shots eventually break down ligaments and tendons and can deteriorate the bones over a period of time. Ask your doctor if he/she can guarantee it won't.

@southern2 I agree with you on those cortisone shots, I have not read anything good from taking those shots and what it does to other organs in your body over time. Im not a candidate for those shots at all.

@msladytee7 thank you so much for your comment! I am not going to take any more of those shots either.

The S1 shot seems to have opened a window of opportunity for more PT and walking, and I’m cautiously optimistic…. So far!

I will quickly say that one thing that has helped me a lot is a belt that has infra red light on it and heat. I do not want to promote one over the other on this forum. There are several brands available on internet. I have severe scoliosis and multiple disc and also severe arthritis in spine. After trying to keep up at Christmas I developed painful sciatica with pain in buttocks and both legs. I will say this belt has helped me be able to bear it. It definitely reduces the pain but does not take it away completely. You might want to check into that.
