Has anyone experienced itchy skin (pruritus) with CKD?
Has anyone here experienced Pruritus in Stage 2 ckd. Waiting on my Nephrologist appointment but asked my Urologist is this what's going on with me her response was no because I'm not on dialysis or in kidney failure I previously went thru this and saw several other Dr's and they couldn't find anything causing it it's driving me crazy especially at night. Could this really be kidney related

@mc2230 I am convinced as well. Every bit of information I have read convinces me. Mine has been diagnosed as exema. I don't have any rash but get hives when I scratch.
Yes, it was definitely kidney related for me. My itching symptoms were so bad at times I was in tears. I have end stage kidney disease. There is a new medication that I came across and talked to my dialysis staff about and it took me awhile to make the drs understand that it was related. So now I'm getting it 3x aweek in dialysis by intravenously. And its working quite well. I have not had any itching at all. It is called ( Korsuva)
@kirsch Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! And thanks so much for giving us a possible remedy for the itching we kidney patients all seem to get!
How long have you been on dialysis?
Ginger
@gingerw since November but have only been on the korusva for around 2 months.
Itching may be a sign that your phosphorus is high. Consult with your nephrologist. Cutting down or avoiding foods with a content high on phosphorus (milk, cheese, nuts, chocolate, cola beverages, processed food with added phosphate) will help. Phosphorus is detected through a blood test. The goal is to keep phosphorus betwen 3.5 and 5.5. Your nephrologis may prescribe binders to maintain the levels of phosphorus under control. Good luck!
