Can mushroom supplements trigger post menopausal bleeding?

Hello. New here. I am 51 and 2 years since my last period. I am on HRT which has been brilliant. No periods or symptoms. Then this last week I noticed my breasts were tender. I thought it felt like they did when I was in perimenoause. A few days later I began a full period. Heavier than my normal periods had been. Crampy period pains the lot. I really thought all this was over with. I didnt have any emergency tampax in the house as I had thrown them all out. The only thing I had changed recently is I had begun to take a mushroom supplement a few days before the period began. I wondered if anyone else had had a similar link. I have stopped the supplement, and I have seen my GP who has booked me in for a bloodiest and ultrasound.

Interesting, I just went to my doctor for post menopausal bleeding. She didn't give much credit to my supplement theory, sited they aren't regulated and no studies. I began 2 new ones...one is a mushroom blend and the other an organ supplement. I thought it was the latter but considering I took the mushroom supplement longer, it should be suspect. I also had a day of being emotional, before the bleeding started, something I haven't experienced since periods and childbirth. It's felt like a regular cycle.

Update. I went for an ultrasound scan. Dr said nothing sinister to worry about which was great news. He said I definitely had a mature follicle on the ovary though, I since had another period. I told him about the supplement and he was very interested to know what it was as he thought it coukd help to stimulate ovulation in people struggling to conceive...so I have inadvertently helped people...I am pleased nothing to worry about but amazed more is not said about the power of the mushroom supplement to do this. After 2 years of menopause I really thought I was done and dusted.

I started drinking mushroom coffee a month ago and after 2 years of menopause I am having a period. I had all of the PMS symptoms that I had prior to menopause (breast tenderness, bloating, etc.) a week to a few days prior to the bleeding. I am experiencing the same cramping and flow that was normal to me prior to menopause. I am scheduled to see my doctor to make sure all is well but I am curious @liz51 and @kj2026 was it a one time occurrence or has it been ongoing?

For reference the mushroom coffee label reads as follows:

Our coffee mushroom blend combines 6 functional mushrooms: Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps, Chaga, Turkey Tail, and Maitake, plus 50mg caffeine from organic instant coffee for a balanced lift and smooth daily performance.

I am late to this post but wanted to share my peculiar experiences w Mushroom coffee too many times to be coincidence. I started enjoying mushroom coffee at 48-49 years old. Everytime, I drank mushroom coffee on a regular basis, I would get a stuck period which would negatively impact me due to adenomeiosis. I'd just had prolonged painful sleepless PMS and a very late period. This was upsetting because the coffee made me feel better cognitively which I work a lot so I thought I found a solution to my tiredness until this happened. I kept risking it and trying to chalk it off to perimenopause but it happened every single time. I kept trying to find research on it but very little available. I think it's worth looking into. I did find something in German (yes German) about either Chaga or Lions Mane effecting the pituitary gland but I can't recall which one. I wish there was more research so I know what mushroom to avoid and I could go back to enjoying my mushroom coffee. Anyway, it must effect our hormones somehow. We need more research by the science community.

@amnm sorry, not logged on for ages, just saw your post. I had 3 monthly cycles, then all has returned to menopause. I only took the supplements for a week or so. No further issues .

@ava3 I am amazed at tge lack of research. Apparently the mushrooms contain phytoestrogens that can cause ovulation. I dug deep into the web, butvthe companies marketting these shoukd really make this dide effect better known. It scared me and wasted nhs money on a pointless scan

Thank you for sharing @liz151 @amnm @kj2026
I’m curious for those of you who got your cycle back, did you notice feeling better afterward? I’m wondering if the mushrooms may have helped move something that felt stagnant in the body, and if you noticed any shifts as a result?
