What sleep meds help you stay asleep?

I’m on a combo of Ambien and Seroquill. I knock out for exactly two hours and then. I’m just awake.

I am prescribed Lunesta 3 mg. I split the tablet, taking 1/2 at lights out, then the other half when I wake and can’t easily drift back to sleep. This works well and my sleep doctor approved. No morning grogginess.

I wonder if Lunesta is better than ambien? My Dr wants me to ween off Ambien, which is difficult.
I've always had trouble sleeping, but got much worse having to take large doses off prednisone.

If your doctor wants you off of Ambien, they will likely not prescribe Lunesta because they are in the same class of meds (sedative/hypnotics) which means they are both good to shut your thoughts down and cue your brain to sleep. I would ask for a referral to a sleep specialist - mine is a neurologist and she says these drugs are safe to take long term and better than chronic insomnia. While supposed to be "for short term use", some people just need it longer. I didn't tolerate Ambien because I had terrible morning anxiety after taking. I don't get that with Lunesta. Good luck. Not sleeping can be debilitating.

@diang Do you split it or take the 3mg at bedtime whole?

So many tries, so many fails. And then my doctor put me on DayVigo. Finally, something that works.
