Awaiting 2nd MRI for Meningioma: What are possible effects of surgery?

Meningioma in right lower quadrant. If it has grown, what are possible side effects of surgery?

I have one right side hearing aid: https://www.phonak.com/en-us/hearing-devices/hearing-aids. I got it once the surgery swelling went down (had very little hearing initially post-surgery) and we could assess my resulting deficit. The hearing aid helps a ton. Without it, I have some persistent weird noises in my ear--clicking and beeping. Once I put the aid in each morning I'm set!

@jvo2020neb1 Hi--I'm so sorry you are going through this. Watch and wait can be so anxiety provoking. I watched my right CPA meningioma for just over a year under the care of my neurosurgeons. It showed some slow growth, but also resulted in very painful facial trigeminal neuralgia that couldn't be treated well with medications. I had near removal of meningioma by retrosigmoid crainiotomy last June at Mayo Rochester, so I'm about 10 months out in my recovery. My tumor was grade 1 but did have a mitosis rate. Post-surgery, I still have occasional facial neuralgia that seems to relate to headaches or fatigue and occasionally, a general feeling of swelling at the surgical site. Overall, I'm doing well and getting back to my exercise and activity levels before surgery. I initially had balance issues that required several months of vestibular therapy, and eye tracking/nystagmus issues that are finally resolving with eye therapy. I also have partial right side hearing loss and a new hearing aid that works really well. If anyone has any specific questions, I'm always happy to message. Best wishes.

@jnf Did you have hearing loss previously or did this only after surgery? I already have hearing loss from where my meningioma is located.

I did not have hearing loss (yet), but to get to my tumor some of my vestibular system had to be removed on that side which resulted in loss. It is amazing that I can hear as much as I can, and with my hearing aid I'm really quite happy!

Memory loss. From personal experience, it happened after surgery.

I didn't have memory loss, per se, but quite often during a conversation would lose my train of thought and could not continue the conversation I was having unless prompted by the listener. (Which, by the way, I caught my husband actually not listening as he couldn't tell me where I left off. 😊) That lasted about 3 months. I was told it was a side effect of anesthesia.

I had minor hearing loss, peripheral vision loss, balance issues, muscle loss & MAJOR personality changes.

I have left frontal lobe with edema.

@as72 are you doing the wait and watch approach? What size is yours? They said there is calcification which tells them it’s been there a while. If they ever need to remove it I understand the calcification is a little more difficult to remove but can be done. Found out last week my osteoporosis has advanced and lost 6% bone loss in 14 months. It’s high, not severe but there are risks of fracture if I fall. Not good odds if I have to have a craniotomy at some point or have a seizure when I’m older. Turning 73 next week.
