Wedge resection is it enough?
I was diagnosed with a stage 1A1 RUL adenocarcinoma last July. Surgeon said he would handle this via wedge. We had narrow but clear margins STAS was present but both pulmonologist and surgeon have assured me that it’s gone and have considered me cured. I have read where a lot of people in my situation have had lobectomy and this concerns me greatly that the wedge is not going to be enough to keep this away. My first follow up scan in December was clear and I have another one tomorrow and I am literally coming apart from the anxiety. Has anyone had a successful wedge resection and have been free from disease for a good period of time? I need so much support right now!!

64 now, had 2 VATS wedge resection 2 years ago. Clear margins, staged 2A as the 17mm nodule grew on top of a lymph node. Clear margins.Had 4 rounds of chemo, then 1 year keytruda which I fought for to decrease chances of reoccrrance. Thankfully my scans have been clear since surgery. I have another surveillance CT at the end April. Praying its clear. Hope that helps! Prayers your scan is clear!

3 Reactions@zora0121 Thats wonderful news Zora!! I am so happy for you. Dr. did not advise chemo or radiation in my case and that makes me nervous. Heck everything does anymore. This has really screwed me up mentally and I have to get myself straightened out SOMEHOW. Prayers that you have another clear scan this month and it WILL BE! Thank you for your message and for thinking of me. I believe that God meant this to be found and early and I am forever grateful for that. Incidental finding and just really shook me up. Take care Zora.

2 Reactions@lhatfield96 I had a lobectomy because my nodule was 3 centimeters and in a tricky place (Stage 1B) with STAS but clear margins. No chemo or radiation and just had my 18 month scan and all is good. I, too, worried about no chemo but read up on it and it sounds like the right decision from all the studies. But I get being nervous. I do my best not to think about it until it’s time for the next scan. I decided I’m going to trust the doctors and quit googling☺️. I’d say not to worry but maybe don’t worry too much because how can we not worry a little at scan time? I wish you the best.

4 Reactions@slaw61 Thank you for responding. That is wonderful news that you are getting consistent surveillance and clear scans!! Gives me a LOT of hope! I took had STAS and clear margins but narrow. Doctor said he cut those airways out which gave me a lot of reassurance this week. Yes, you and I are of the same feeling that maybe we should have had chemo but Surgeon said it really would not be that beneficial and radation would have done more harm than good. We HAVE to trust our wonderful doctors!! They know what is best for us! I will do my best to try to put this behind me for now and try to manage better here in a few months. By the way my scan on Tuesday looked "GREAT" according to both my surgeon and pulmonologist!! It hasn't sunk in yet. I had myself so so distraught and am feeling better finally today. I am giving all credit to GOD for his intervention and blessing me with good health and clear scan. He is working in my life. So nice to hear from you and learn of your experience-we are similar cases. Take care!
UPDATE!! Went for my 8 month scan on Tuesday and it was deemed "GREAT" by both my surgeon and pulmonologist!! God is so good and so is this wonderful group. I feel safe here and it is not like other support groups (Facebook) that are so scary and negative. Blessings to all of us as we navigate through this journey. Big hugs!
