Possible failure of Nissen Fundoplication (2021)
I had a Nissen Fundoplication in July 2021 due to hiatal hernia, severe gerd, etc. I had major complications in September 2021 prompting the the surgeon to redo the surgery but adding an "anchor" from the stomach to my abdomen. I've had mild gerd but it has been manageable by meds for 4 years. Recently I got really sick (nausea & vomiting) and since then have had intractible nausea accompanied by frequent deep burping. I'm having an endoscopy next week but am very concerned the Fundoplication has failed again. Has anyone experienced something similar and what was the outcome?

Yes I was admitted to hospital last week with dehydration as could not keep anything down. I had a endoscopy done they said the Nissan Fundaplication was looking and they did not have the answers as to why I am
Having these issues. They did say I was showing quite abit of inflammation inside when they put the scope down so I am not if that’s causing the problem?
But I still can’t really eat and stil have quite bad pain in back and abdomen area. So Iam at a loss as to want it is . I am now home from hospital. They suggested trying omprazole for 6 weeks
I had the Nissen Fundoplication done 1 year ago for Hiatal Hernia and reflux (daily). Since then, I have had shortness of breath that won't go away. I've been scoped for vocal cord dysfunction, and the vocal cords are in good shape.
Has anyone else with the NF experienced shortness of breath?

1 ReactionI should have followed up to my original post sooner. My Endoscopy was normal and my Fundoplication is still intact. Shortly after the endoscopy, I started getting really sick with severe nausea and a whole bunch of other symptoms. My GI ran a myriad of tests which only made me sicker, i had to wait 3 weeks for a gastric emptying study which finally confirmed my diagnosis was Gastroparesis.
I've had to change all my meds, my diet, my lifestyle, and my work schedule. I can't even leave the house for more than a couple hours at a time. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Sorry for the long post!!

2 ReactionsI just had an endoscopy and it confirmed my suspicions that my Nissen wrap surgery was unsuccessful. The wrap only lasted a short few months and then all my acid reflux symptoms were back. I believe I had the surgery two years ago. Now I have been told to continue taking two anti-acids a day so back to square one. The surgery was a waste of time and money!
Hi @jlharsh
Things are no better and I just can’t seem to get on top
Of the pain which is in the side of stomach and now wondering if it’s a bowel issue? I still can’t eat properly at all so I am not sure what is going on.
