Would like to know your experience with Evenity
Hi I have severe osteoporosis. I am thinking of going on Evenity and need to build up my bones before a much need knee replacement. I would appreciate it if anyone out there who has been on Evenity can tell me what your experience has been. The black box warning scares me but I don't feel like I have a choice as there are only 2 anabolic bone building drugs at this time and that's what my dr. said I need before the knee replacement. They both recommended Evenity. I don't have any heart issues other than having high cholesterol. My dr. wants me to consider going on a statin.
Thank you

@devi12345: I understand your hesitancy to choose Evenity 12 mo. Injections for your osteoporosis bone density problem. I will take my 12th set of Evenity shots in May and have had no cardiac effects, but some muscle & bone slight discomfort through the year. My doc says to wait two months after last Evenity to begin the stabilizing osteo drug. He also says d that the complete bone density strength may not be fully restored before 3-4 months after Evenity.
I hope this info helps you make this difficult decision. dbamos1945

2 ReactionsI'm trying to weigh the benefits vs. risks and they seem to be about the same. In order to have the knee replacement (severe osteoarthritis of both knees, bone-on-bone) I need to make a decision. I had to resort to using a walker for the 1st time in my life after a horrible flare-up last month. Up until then, I was managing quite well. But because I have severe osteoporosis, I feel I don't have a choice but to increase my bone density before the surgery. Thank you for your response. Good luck with your journey and glad you did not have any serious effects.

4 ReactionsForteo, tymlos and evenity are the "bone builders". I would suggest looking through the subheadings under Osteoporosis. There is a wealth of information about all of the current osteoporosis meds as well as other methods that people are using to help their bones.

2 ReactionsI had Evenity shots for six months. My new DEXA scan showed that I lost bone density, instead of gaining any. Maybe unrelated but I also had an aneurysm and a TIA at basically the same time. After the disappointing results, they switched me back to Prolia. Best wishes. It is hard to know what to do at times.

3 ReactionsI took Evenity for 12 months last year (last dose 12/25). I had no side effects other than mild soreness at the injection site (I did arms) for a short time afterwards. It was effective and I am now on Reclast. I had no cardiac history.

3 Reactions@spunkyspinster So sorry. Did you have a cardiac history?
I was on Evenity for 6 months prior to having back surgery. I consulted four surgeons in the course of deciding where I wanted to have the surgery, and the one thing on which all four doctors agreed was that I needed to get Evenity shots, which I did. I experienced an increase in blood pressure due to the drug, but this was reasonably well controlled via blood pressure meds prescribed by my primary care doctor. It is recommended that you take this drug for twelve months, but the most benefit from Evenity comes in the first six months. So, if you can get through six months of shots, that may be all that you need. Sadly, you will not know how you will respond to the drug (what side effects it will cause) until you take it, but it does build bone for most people. It is worth giving it a try to get the best possible outcome from your surgery.

5 ReactionsI just finished a year on Evenity. I also did six months on PTH analogs before starting Evenity. My lumbar spine density improved by 31% (from -2.2 to -1.5).
My side effects were tolerable and included joint pain and itching in my breast area. This was intermittent and didn’t occur continuously - only some months for the first two weeks after the shots, which I got in my arms.
