Anyone on Humira Biosimilars? Which Biosimilar is better for you?

Posted by Alta Net @altabiznet, 3 days ago

I am about to switch from original AbbVie Humira to a biosimilar. Anyone on Humira biosimilars? Please share your experience.

Here is the list:
There are 10 approved biosimilars for Humira (adalimumab) in the U.S. These biosimilars are used to treat various conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease. Here is a list of some of the biosimilars:
Amjevita (Amgen)
Cyltezo (Boehringer Ingelheim)
Hulio (Sandoz)
Hadlima (Samsung Bioepis)
Abrilada (AbbVie)
Yusimry (Coherus BioSciences)
Nivestym (Pfizer)
Adalimumab-atto (Amgen)
Adalimumab-adbm (Boehringer Ingelheim)
Adalimumab-bwwd (Biosimilar).

I haven’t heard about biosimilars before. I was on Humira to treat RA. Didn’t help my constant horrible pain. So I was stopped and put on meloxicam which hardly treats my pain (supplement with Tylenol Extra Strength and PM) and does not stop my bone destruction.

Are biosimilars a generic form and possibly cheaper?

REPLY

Yes, biosimilars are generic versions of biologic drugs that came off the patent. In case of Humira there are multiple biosimilars available that are covered by insurance. Original Humira brand is no longer covered.

Other possible biologic drug choices for RA: Orencia, Actemra, or Rituximab supplemented with Tylenol or Ibuprofen for ongoing pain. These Biologic drugs reduce inflammation and potentially slow down bone destruction. But they do not reduce pain. Separate pain management medications are needed, like Tylenol. Some patients reported that low dose naltrexone worked well for them.

I am on a bio similar called Yuflyma for recurrent uveitis but also have other autoimmune issues; it’s been 6 months (injections every 2 weeks) and the uveitis has not flared; I do take Tylenol occasionally for flares of joint pain which is somewhat better on this drug. Side effects are minimal for me.
Response to biologics varies for each patient. Best wishes.

I’ve been on bio similar Simlandi since February, ok so far. Was on Humira previously for 2 years.

If you do not mind sharing, what is your indication?
What is your success rate with responding to Humira and now to Simlandi?
Any side effects?

I was diagnosed in January of 2022 with RA, (252 on RF test) with minor Sjogren. In 2023 started Humira which worked well enough to get me off of prednisone. I’ve been on Simlandi since February 2026, have not had a problem so far. In 2022 was put on hydroxychloroquine and methotrexate and continue to this day. Still have minor pain in hands, and tingling toes. But soooo much better.

I've been taking Cyltezo since November, 2025. Studies show that it's better than Enbrel, which was my other choice. Been taking Humira since 2023. It was no longer approved by insurance. Then the generic humira didn't seem to be working.

Thank you for sharing. Can please clarify which generic Humira was not working? Was it Abrilada (by original Humira manufacturer AbbVie), or Cyltezo (by Boehringer Ingelheim)?
