Anyone on Humira Biosimilars? Which Biosimilar is better for you?

I haven’t heard about biosimilars before. I was on Humira to treat RA. Didn’t help my constant horrible pain. So I was stopped and put on meloxicam which hardly treats my pain (supplement with Tylenol Extra Strength and PM) and does not stop my bone destruction.

Are biosimilars a generic form and possibly cheaper?

Yes, biosimilars are generic versions of biologic drugs that came off the patent. In case of Humira there are multiple biosimilars available that are covered by insurance. Original Humira brand is no longer covered.

Other possible biologic drug choices for RA: Orencia, Actemra, or Rituximab supplemented with Tylenol or Ibuprofen for ongoing pain. These Biologic drugs reduce inflammation and potentially slow down bone destruction. But they do not reduce pain. Separate pain management medications are needed, like Tylenol. Some patients reported that low dose naltrexone worked well for them.

I am on a bio similar called Yuflyma for recurrent uveitis but also have other autoimmune issues; it’s been 6 months (injections every 2 weeks) and the uveitis has not flared; I do take Tylenol occasionally for flares of joint pain which is somewhat better on this drug. Side effects are minimal for me.
