@danny1034 First of all, welcome to Connect! Perhaps you have been following the HCM blogs for a while, thank you for posting your first item/question. I took Verapamil for many, many years before a septal myectomy with no perceptible side effects. Since then, I have been on Metoprolol, so I cannot relate a similar experience to help you weigh your decision. I looked at some Mayo information; a difference is that Verapamil is a calcium blocker while Bystolic/nebivolol is a beta blocker. Here are things to read: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-pressure/in-depth/beta-blockers/art-20044522 and https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-pressure/in-depth/calcium-channel-blockers/art-20047605. We do not give medical advice on Connect; we do encourage participants to learn all they can in order to ask doctors questions and participate with knowledge in making decisions. Please have your doctor explain exactly why he/she would choose one medication over the other. How long have you been treated for HOCM? Is your care team associated with a COE (Center of Excellence)?
