Hi @preacherswife1977, Vitamin B-12 is an important building block for red blood cell formation, cell metabolism, nerve function and the production of DNA. Having a low B-12 level can cause symptoms such as tingling in hands and feet. But from my understanding high levels of B-12 from supplements can also produce similar symptoms. Even though it’s a water soluble vitamin, it can still create side effects.
Members in Connect can’t diagnose or prescribe medications or supplements. So this is a great question, but one that would be best answered by your hematologist if it’s safe for you to take or not.
Have you had a recent Vit B-12 blood serum test to check your level?
The B-12 may help the tingling, as others have mentioned. However, there are several conditions which can cause tingling in the feet besides low vitamin B-12, including underlying health conditions or other deficiencies. For example, a magnesium deficiency can be a factor in peripheral neuropathy, include numbness and tingling or a pinched nerve.
So before starting any supplement it’s a good idea to check in with your doctor and maybe have some blood tests.
@preacherswife1977 I don’t feel tingling in my feet. My feet always feel like they’re numb. It’s a very strange feeling. It is always there. I notice it more at night when I’m laying down. Although, my hands and feet feel strange… It’s hard to describe.
Question along this line. I’m new to this ET thing. (Diagnosed with ET/Jak2….
Are there any Specific DO NOT TAKE with this diagnosis? I’ve not been told.
@preacherswife1977
I have neuropathy in my feet and hands, possibly due to being diabetic as well as having ET.
The past few nights I have been using my neuropathy relief socks. Bought them on ebay and find when I am having problems with my feet and not being able to sleep, I put the socks on and get a good nights sleep Don't seem to notice the tingling, numb feeling during the day, as when you have something else to occupy your mind, it goes into the back ground, doesn't disappear but is easier to handle.
My haematologist has done a B12 test so will be interesting to get results tomorrow.

@loribmt hi I was very interested in your comments about B12 as I have been taking it for neuropathy in my feet and legs mainly at night and have found it helped until recently when I noticed it didn’t but then interestingly after having some blood tests it showed my levels were dangerously high and was told to stop taking anything with B12 including supplements and any foods containing it which surprised me as it being a water soluble vitamin it didn’t make sense but I now think that we shouldn’t just take supplements without proper medical advice it’s better to get advice from a dietitian who can advise on what you need and how to get it from natural food sources be cause overdosing on supplements obviously causes other problems

@sdcgcarroll Hi I have ET and Jak2 as well. I haven't found alot of information about drugs etc that react with the hydroxycarbamide I take. I usually google if I want to try something I think may help with the side effects of hydroxycarbamide and the standard reply is to ask your doctor. So that's what I do. A list of substances that effect the medication we are on would be wonderful but in the meantime I will have to consult my doctor each time I want to try something new.

4 ReactionsNo I have not had my B12 checked. Was thinking it may help the uncomfortable feeling in my feet.
