Tramadol
I'm not a fan of opioids, but pain is pain. I'm still doing a lot of physical work around the house because my husband won't do anything. I take temazepam for sleep and Setraline for something ( I've been on that for more than half my life. I'm 74 now. I have sciatica, osteo, arthritis, nerve damage, and tight muscles. I live a stressful life since my husband has dementia and was diagnosed with Narcissistic personality disorder. It's just another day in paradise. Anyone else using this combination of drugs?

I say take it if you can get it, especially at your age. Why suffer if you don't need to. For me I've never felt good enough from any med that I could get addicted to it, YET!!!

7 ReactionsI found Tramadol to be extremely addicting, extremely quickly. Needed more and more almost immediately. It was all prescribed legally, but I knew I had to quit.
I also take Temazepam (for 20 years now) and have never raised my dose.
Never became addicted to or abused any other drug.
FYI
@meryw
I could quit it tomorrow with no ill effects.

6 ReactionsI took Tramadol for fibromyalgia pain until my Dr. pulled off it because the practice was avoiding opioids. I didn't take it all the time, and a 30 day supply would last me months. As a consequence I never got addicted. Now I use a combo of naproxen sodium with acetaminophen when the pain won't budge. As for your husband...I was married to a man w/NPD and finally walked out when I couldn't take the abuse anymore. My heart is with you because NPD alone is terrible - and adding dementia has to be even worse. I hope you are able to access senior citizen assistance through your state's human services agency. Any help you can get- whether it is having him in a day program for Alzheimer's or something else to give you respite - is important to help your own health. I hope you can find some relief.

2 Reactions@bajjerfan Yes, that is my position as well. My Rx is for 4/day (Tramadol) but I only take it once - at night, along with Pregabalin (Lyrica) for neuropathic pain. If I don't sleep, I become clumsy and am at an increased risk for falls. But when a person recognizes that a medicine is not well tolerated, it is wisdom on their part to eliminate or substitute another for it.

2 ReactionsI was taking over 2,000 mg of ibuprofen for arthritis. My physician and I were concerned that all that Ibuprofen would harm my kidneys, so she prescribed Tramadol. I take 100 mg 2 to 3 X daily.
I’ve never felt any craving or withdrawal effects with Tramadol. I just take it to relieve my pain.

1 Reactionand Tylenol is heavy doses harms your liver......can't win
I have wanted to take Tramadol for my back pain but my PA-C required a Telehealth call before approval of each refill, and also a drug addiction blood test (like a pre-employment test) before the refill too. Too bad my PCP can’t prescribe Tramadol. Such red tape. So I switched to diclofenac which is not as good for pain relief.
