I open my eyes when I sleep. One way you could tell if you do is do your Eyes feel gritty when you wake up in the morning. I wear a mask and I have for over 20 years. It’s a mask that is designed to wear at night, it is Eye Eco it is a small company you can get them on Amazon or from there website.

@pha29205 have you gotten a full dry eye work up at your optometrist? This is usually covered by your medical health insurance. There are many causes of dry eye and the doctor can help determine what is going on, and hopefully provide you with more treatment options. I’m sorry you are having such trouble with your dry eye, I also have dry eye and it is hard to explain how bothersome this condition really is.

@pha29205 I think that is a common problem with dry eye, as your eyes are open a lot when driving, also some people are sensitive to light. Sunglasses or other types of glare blocking lenses can help. Definitely mention driving difficulties to your doctor. There are tons of different types of prescription drops, as well as other treatment options. @minnesota10 mentioned a sleep mask which is a great recommendation, a humidifier is also good. Warm compress is good too. Lots of lifestyle things like fish oil supplements have evidence in helping. It sounds like there are many options still available to you so I hope some of them help. Let us know how it goes!

Go to Amazon. Google a "Bruder Mask." Have had dry eyes for almost 50 years (started mid 20's). Helps.
Ask about serum tears too. Has been recommended but have not tried yet.
Assuming you put in night time eye ointment.

Eye doctor told me if your eyes tear it is your body responding to very try eyes. He put me on prescription Restasis 2x day and Systane Complete 4x a day. I am now down to Systane 1x day. But my eyes hurt all the time. I will have to call him.
