Has anyone taken trazodone (Desyrel) for insomnia. If so, what was your experience with it?

As we just started, he wanted to see how things progress with a little bit at a time. Seems legitimate to me. Been on that 1/3rd since Nov. 01 and it's not helped It's given one less hour of sleep than what I usually got with the Zolpidem alone. I ready to tell this to my GP and see what happens.

Hello, so I have been on the desyrel 50 mg for about a week now for the treatment of insomnia and I barely see any changes. In fact it made my sleep worse and I go to sleep very late after taking the drug. My doctor wants me to continue but I am having doubts if I should stick with it or not. One day I didn't take it and I slept naturally for about 4-5 hours. With the pill that is the same amount of sleep I get also when I can go to sleep. There is also the issue of stuff nose which is irritating. Maybe I should go on until the 2nd week and if it doesn't improve I should leave it behind. The doctor also told me to take two at night if it doesn't work, but I am not very confident about handling the adverse effects if I take two.

Trazadone worked for two nights for me, but then kept me awake. So I know that I am allergic to certain kinds of anti-histamines, so I looked it up and sure enough, Trazadone has an anti-histamine in it. So maybe that's why it made your sleep worse.

@judybradford Same for me - trazodone and hydroxyzine didn't work for me because of the antihistamine properties (in my opinion). Benadryl sometimes works, especially 1/2 tablet, and if used only occasionally.

I take 150mg of Trazodone and sleep through the night...about 7 hours

I’m taking 50 mg of trazodone and sleep 6 to 6.5 hours straight through. I just tested negative for sleep apnea.
Still I wonder if I’m getting enough sleep.

Trazadone 50 mg. helped me sleep 4 hr. 75 mg. helped me sleep 5 hrs. Now I find if I rest/sleep first for a few hours until I wake for bathroom, then take 75. mg Trazadone, I will sleep until normal wake up time.
