Dear PRC Staff,
I remember the day I was told about PRC [Pain Rehabilitation Center] like it was yesterday. I had flown to FL from CA for a third opinion from Mayo Clinic. Quite honestly, I felt like it was my last resort for answers and a diagnosis. When the GI doctor suggested PRC I felt defeated. I remember going to my car in the exact parking lot I pull into every day and just crying. I felt like I was being called crazy and that my symptoms were made up. After some time and a lot of thought, I decided “What do I have to lose?” and decided to try the program. I wrote in my journal the day before intake about how I was feeling. I was skeptical, I was frustrated and thought “these people will never be able to help me” and “I know there is a specialist who will eventually find out what’s wrong with me.”
The first few days were a struggle for me. When I did not see immediate results, I started doubting things. However, I slowly started listening more and doing my part. Although my ego hates to admit it (HaHa!) I was wrong. For the first time in almost a year I took my first bite of food. For the first time in almost a year I ate a meal. For the first time in almost a year I got back to the gym. For the first time in SEVEN years, I started to feel normal, and for the first time in SEVEN years I felt like I had a future.
I walked into PRC depressed, unhappy and hopeless. I felt like my life was coming to an end, and that being on TPN [Total Parenteral Nutrition] was only sustainable for maybe another year. Now at the close of week three as I reflect back, I am actually excited about the future, and excited to be able to be alive and start living again.
To all of the PRC staff, thank you!
Thank you for supporting me through this journey with gentle yet straightforward and sometimes a little harsh (just kidding) guidance. Thank you for pushing me when I wouldn’t push myself. Thank you for giving me the tools I needed to start putting my life back together. Most of all, thank you for giving me hope. I look forward to the day I can send you that picture on a beautiful beach in Australia in my scuba gear.

@rwinney The tools to deal with chronic pain and anxiety of the pain. The end or cessation of opioids , confidence in walking and movement. The end of the chase for the answer to why is this happening to me and what is wrong. Reengagement with family and friends and hopefully saying goodbye to this couch and TV. Just off the top of my head.

1 Reaction@lisamarie235 That is a fair concern, one that most have. Regarding mobility and stamina, graded physical activity is implemented. While stretching, PT exercising and cardio training is the same expectation for each participant, they are at each persons unique pace with support and guidance. Slight modifications will be made accordingly. Optimism will serve you well.

2 Reactions@jtboston you have found the perfect program then. Which location will you be attending?
Minnesota hopefully. I am a self pay and the estimate is almost $50k I’m not sure what options I have for assistance. My insurance won’t cover out of state from MA. I want to get in here desperately. Any suggestions ?

1 ReactionMarlie,
I dont understand your message, well i do, but have no clue what is going on with you.
It's OK to be scared. I am too. I cant walk without a cane or walker since SCS removal surgery and my legs frequently go numb.
I would give anything not to have done that Procedure, no one warns of the terrible consequences. If you remain afraid reach out again. Maybe others know your back story, I dont. I cant eat much either, i live on smoothies ut any food in my body causes tremendous pain...My pain levels are beyond what any human should have to bear, I just pray for better days. Wising you well.
@yram I start this Friday and also have pain and mobility issues. Contact me if you want to talk.
@lisamarie235
I would like to communicate with you to see how we are doing. I feel like I need so much work , but i have faith in God that He will heal me. 🙏 Marlie
@yram me too! When you said that you were about to be admitted, did you mean to the PRC program? That’s how I had interpreted it but I’m sorry if I misunderstood. I too am very nervous about starting but extremely hopeful and very open to making changes and escaping the isolation which has become my life!
