My neurologist has prescribed Nurtec for visual symptom.

Anybody have experience with using Nurtec for scintillating scotoma (migraine aura)? have never had a migraine headache, but have worsening visual symptoms probably related to MS. Vision is dim, some brief doubling, plus the geometric patterns that I would call hallucinations, but science calls “scintillating scotoma”.

After Nurtec, amazing bright, crystal clear 20/20 vision, where I can read without glasses happens very soon and wavers in and out for a while. Seems to have days of positive, unsteady effects on vision. Very odd drug.

Did you have any expected side effects, like nausea and GI distress after taking Nurtec?

@altabiznet NO nausea or GI symptoms in my experience with Nurtec. It is hard to describe why I am not wildly positive about Nurtec. I would say that its effects are unlike those of any other mecication I have ever taken. It works very fast and is extremely strong and lasts a long time. Taking less quantity does not result in weaker effect for me. Half a tablet works like a whole tablet and a quarter seems about the same. Sometimes I think visual distortion is increased but I see very clearly without the shimmering geometric patterns. I am grateful to have access to Nurtec. It helps me through some bad days. And I don’t need it all the time. I feel a bit anxious about taking it since it seems so strange and strong, but really it is wonderful.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Sounds like a promising drug for people with visual disturbances. I have some degree of double vision, blurriness, and floaters - all after chemotherapy and metoprolol (I think). I will be exploring Nurtec with my doctors.

Is this something you normally have to take every day? Cuz when I take it I have to take it on onset of a migraine I know we're taking it for different reasons

I take it only occasionally, but the neurologist reccommends more often.
