How to tell wounds from skin cancer treatment are healing correctly?

Posted by iamsoto @iamsoto, Mar 26 9:19pm

I recently had spots removed from the bottom of my left foot, near the heel. It has been about 2 weeks and I am getting around slowly with a cane. Hopefully they got it all. I clean it once a day with soapy water and place ointment and non stick gauze. Can't stand/walk on it fully just yet. Is there anyone who has experienced this who can tell me how I know the actual healing of the wound has started or is on the right path? The hardest part is keeping walking to a minimum, being restless, and trying to continue to contribute to the family dynamic.

@iamsoto Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Definitely follow the instructions that your doctor gave you for post-procedure care. When do you go back to see them?

I wonder if there is pressure being placed on the area when you walk? Even if it is less than you normally do, the actual placing of weight on your foot, especially in that area, might indeed be hindering the healing. But, I am not a doctor. Hopefully the discomfort is lessening.
