Stomach Acid and Omeprazole

I don't think this is caused by any cancer but I've heard were several people have a problem with stomach acid.
For quite a while I'd take a little bit of baking side in water 2-3 times a day. Then a friend and I were taking about this and he said he has been plagued with it also. His doctor recommended Omeprazole. Its just a little pill you take every morning. From what I was told it doesn't neutralize acid, it prevents acid from forming or being produced. It can be bought over the counter. I tried it and so far its great. I feel very good, no more baking soda.

I take -omeprazole everyday. My advice to you is get a prescription I pay nothing with ins. and I know that over the counter is 10.00 or more. Check out to see if ins. will pay. Thank you

I am suffering chronic kidney disease because of omeprazole. Unfortunately I took it for about 40 years before my nephrologist took me off it the first time I saw him. If you research it, you'll find a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer for it causing kidney failure.

I'm now taking two fomitodine tablets daily (am & pm) and it works just as well and is safer. It's generic and there is no co-pay.

Please be mindful of omeperzole...please do it under the advice of your doctor.

I used to take omeprazole daily. My respiratory doctor told me to stop it due to side effects with long use. My doctor put me on fomitodine(called pepside over the counter twice daily) It works great!

Same. I’ve had no trouble with famotidine. I’ve also tried to cut back on spicy food but… Hey, I can’t be good all the time.

I talked to my cancer doctor and she said it shouldn't be a problem. She also said if I want to continue taking a small amount of baking soda for stomach acid that is also fine. She said Omeprazole will stop the acid from forming in my stomach. She did say I should talk to my regular doctor and make sure it won't interfere with my regular meds.

I have to say, it is so good talking to people that know first hand about something. I love it here. Thanks all!

Wow thank you for sharing. I am sorry for your situation with your kidneys. I’ve not heard of this side effect from omeprazole! I’ve been on it off and on over the years but recently concluded I may be on it for life! Your story is a helpful warning to me.
