Glioblastoma IDH:wildtype MGMT positive

Hello all!
My 60 yr old husband was diagnosed in Dec 2025 with brain tumor which lead to a resection on Jan 2,2026. Thinking he would go home afterwards, we landed in Inpatient rehab for 3 weeks. 10 days later we were back at Mayo starting radiation + chemo and staying at the Hope Lodge for a 6 week phase. We are 1/2 way done.
He also underwent neuropsychiatric testing and the #1 finding was Major Neurocognitive Disorder (which is the new name for dementia)
His anger and irritation has been better since the removal, however it fluxes depending on the day + fatigue level.
His tumor location is left side frontoproprietal which really has impacted his executive functioning; processing things, insight.
It’s heavy.
I’m happy to have been guided here to learn from others stories and lean into a community of people going thru similar challenges.
I pray for everyone here + praise God for all the people he continues to bring into our lives that need Him just am much as I do!

welcome to this page and the mayo clinic connect groups, My name is randy and i too have been through a lot of your same treatments your both dealing with. sending prayers to you both for healing and strength to overcome this stage of your lives-=================== prayer sent and i hope you have a blessed day today. i Strongly believe in prayer groups and chain prayer where there are those that pass prayer to the church, i had so many people praying for me and my cancerous tumor that i was heard and first testing after the radiation and chemo showed no cancer, blessed be but God. that was all in 2024 and its been a long road to recovery but finally i can see light where at first only dark times. still have short term memory loss but its getting better daily. feel free to ask any questions and i will try to help with answers. have a good day.

God bless you and your husband. My brother also experienced the same. We wish you strength as you go through this journey. My brother tried the Optune system, that might be something to consider. 🙏

@kpickowitz we were told the Optune was something they wanted him to consider. May I ask how long your brother used it for? I appreciate you taking the time.

@amy913, in addition to @kpickowitz's brother's experience with Optune, you may be interested in this related discussion where @otis123 graciously continues to share about her experiences caring for her husband:

Your journey caring for your husband sounds heavy and complex. I'm glad to hear that you are in good hands at Mayo Clinic and that you are staying at the Hope Lodge. It can help to have others around.

Do you live far from Mayo? How do you feel about returning home after the 6 weeks? Do you have support at home?

Hope your husband did well the last couple weeks. I stayed at the Rochester Hope Lodge too -last summer. Very nice. The Mayo is so nice being on the subway walkway too. We still go there for my MRIs . From NW Wisconsin.
Has the Mayo team suggest your husband does the Optune when hes done with the Radiation?

Hello! Thank you. He is hanging in there. Experiencing a lot of fatigue, nausea and probably the most cumbersome is the continued impairment with cognition and his right arm/hand + leg/foot numbness. He’s getting more frustrated with that. Gently, I just try to reassure him that I am here. He is safe.
They did talk to us about the Optune, and he is willing to try it.
May I ask about your journey? Blessings to you today!

@colleenyoung we are 3 1-2 hrs from Rochester in central Wisconsin.
Great question! I have been thinking about all the things at home. I am grateful for friends and family that are willing to help carry the load. I am learning to accept the help. I think the biggest challenge is that I didn’t know what to say when people asked to help. Learning.

@amy913 Hi. I didn't have much pain on anything while at the Hope Lodge. Mostly fatigue and my talking was a bit worse. We actually had a pretty good time there-besides the radiation. Checked out many restaurants and bars nearby.
We're near Turtle Lake WI. You're probably an hour east or southeast from us . What city are you near? Hope your husbands legs and hands improve over time.
