Does anyone treat their neuropathy without pharmaceutical drugs?
I’ve recently been diagnosed with neuropathy and given gabapentin for pain. I am concerned about the many side effects of this drug. I don’t know why I have this condition as I am not diabetic and have no pinched nerves in my spine. I’m 78 and pretty healthy except for this. I exercise at the gym 4-4 times a week and walk several miles when I don’t go to the Y.
Anyone have suggestions for me?

@gmjs Where did you receive the class IV laser therapy?
A radiology, dermatology, or chiropractic clinic? I have not heard of it and am interested in your experience. Thanks.
@arcuri24 Some PT's and chiropractorshave lasers. It is important to find someone who has a class 4 or K laser from what I know. I started with Dr who had a class 2 laser and it didn't help much at all. It can be somewhat expensive because it isn't covered by insurance. If you have chiropractic school with clinic near you, they do it very reasonably for me! So thrilled to have found them
@dbeshears1 - Thanks much! In 2022 I started with 50mg Gabapentin and it made me loopy without relieving the pain. My doc said I wouldn't notice any pain relief unless I was taking upwards of 1800mg! After 2 months, he put me on Lyrica - 50mg to start and increased to 75mg in 2024. It's helping me manage the pain maybe 90% of the time (until this year), but I've definitely gained weight on it. I agree with you - we're all different and have to find what works best in our situation. Best wishes to you!

I initially got it from a chiropractor in private practice who had the laser. It is an expensive laser so you have to search out someone who has it. I now get it at a school of chiropractic that has a clinic to teach students. They have the best lasers and provide it.
@dbeshears1 I take 2 Magnesium Glycinate 160 mg before I go to bed every night and B 12 500 mcg as well as Bcomplex every day. I find they help in liquid form, as well as vit C in powder form. I take no medication for Neurophy.

1 ReactionThere are many other causes besides diabetes and Final disc problems there are chemicals toxins a lot of other things you can look into and do some searching on it talk to her neurologist and keep on exercising and doing as much as you can also talk to your primary doctor but they usually are not well versed in all the areas even a lot of neurologists aren't

Hi Karen, I have diagnosed SFN. Have you asked your doctor for a skin punch biopsy? This is what you need to get a diagnosis.

1 Reaction@cit10jetjockey I stopped a statin for six months, and made no difference in my neuropathy. Unfortunately, I have chronic pain with mine 24/7. At night I have a relax routine, plus take a zolpidem - only way I can get 5-6 hours sleep. Normally before 6:00 a.m. the pain is what wakes me up and start the day again. I have found The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy a great resource along with this Mayo Clinic site.
