How did you reduce hot flashes from Orgovyx?

Posted by kenporter @kenporter, Jan 18, 2025

Hello, I’ve been on Orgovyx for 7 weeks now and the hot flashes are a real pain in the butt. I would welcome any ideas or suggestions to make them less frequent. Also getting some headaches and back pain. Doc says I’ll probably be taking Orgovyx for 18 months and I sure hope the side effects don’t increase to any great extent. Supposed to start 9 weeks of radiation in early February and I’m sure there will be some added side effects. Thanks for any suggestions. Wishing all of you well. Ken

Sure do appreciate all the great “tips” to help with the hot flashes. A BIG thank you to all the people offering suggestions. When you tell a female member of your family you are suffering from hot flashes the response is usually “welcome to the club”. Ha, a club nobody wants to join.

@kenporter That's hilarious, as that's EXACTLY what my female friends have been saying. LOL

I am six months in on Orgovyx and my hot flashes have been tapering off a bit. I started a course of acupuncture based on my oncologists recommendation. I am early on in the acupuncture treatment, but it seems to help with the hot flashes. So, far they have been fewer, weaker and shorter since starting acupuncture.

Currently taking 5mg Oxybutynin twice daily for hot flashes and frequency of urination. Not eliminating but helping.

Don't laugh. Whenever I get a hot flash, I just put a bag of frozen peas on my head, and 20 seconds later I am back to normal.

My RO recommended Soy Isoflavone capsules. They don’t get rid of the hot flashes but they are not nearly as bad as without it. I take one capsule a day.

@sbassmeister
My GU oncologist prescribed Depo-provera shots every three months, They stopped my hot flashes, Which were quite severe. Until I went on Zytiga. At that point, it helped a little but not as much. If I had been on a lutamide The hot flashes would not have gotten worse.

At the Mayo monthly meeting two months ago, this recommendation for drugs to stop hot flashes was posted.

@hector13 Not laughing. Frozen peas have been applicable from hot flashes to the softball to the forehead I once took.

My husband takes Megestrol and it started to help in about 10 days. Still gets hot but not with the drenching sweat episodes that were really affecting his quality of life.
