How did you reduce hot flashes from Orgovyx?
Hello, I’ve been on Orgovyx for 7 weeks now and the hot flashes are a real pain in the butt. I would welcome any ideas or suggestions to make them less frequent. Also getting some headaches and back pain. Doc says I’ll probably be taking Orgovyx for 18 months and I sure hope the side effects don’t increase to any great extent. Supposed to start 9 weeks of radiation in early February and I’m sure there will be some added side effects. Thanks for any suggestions. Wishing all of you well. Ken

Venlafaxine taken in the morning worked well for me. Helped with the mood swings as well. I've been off Orgovyx for 9 months now but still taking it. Wife said please don't stop??? Whatever that means (-:
My RO suggested I try Estroven which is an over the counter product for menopause! He said it would not interfere with my Lupron or Bicalutimide and to try it first before any prescription. You have to take it for about a month it says on the label. I’m starting week 3 and though I don’t notice much change in my hot flashes, which so far have been annoying but not terrible, I do think my mood has improved. There are two types, one just Estroven and one with ashwagondha. I bought the plain one but will probably try the one with ashawagodha next.
A study completed a few months ago, called the Patch study. It showed that taking estrogen in the right amount, using a patch, replaces Lupron and reduces the side effects. It has the exact same effect as Lupron on your testosterone. It also will give you back some of your desire for intimacy, which Lupron takes away
Using estradiol patches works great to replace Lupron. Talk to your doctor about this. There’s no reason you should be having Lupron as well, Maybe you just need slightly more estradiol.
Thanks Jeffmarc! I will ask him about the patch as I’m scheduled for my second Lupron shot on February 28th.
Good question Ken, and I am wishing you the best in your journey. I have been on Lupron and Yonsa (abiraterone acetate) for two years as of next March following chemo. The results relative to the cancer have been excellent.
The usual described side effects are all there (loss of muscle mass, lethargy, minor mood swings and the hot flashes). I sometimes question whether some of the side effects are from the medications or just being 76 yers old. (I have never been this old before.) I am gladly accepting the side effects vs. the probable outcome without the treatment.
Great information about the Estroven and the estrogen patch. I had not heard of either as possibilities. Next scans and oncology visits in 2 weeks, both options are on my list of questions.
The best to all of you brothers, let’s Hammer Down on Cancer! Gary
Hi, Jeff. Just curious -- would taking estrogen exacerbate the gynecomastia that's the another frustrating side-effect of ADT?
Yes, estrogen can be a problem with gynecomastia like ADT. A little radiation can prevent it from happening!
Thanks for the extra info.
I've already been radiated nearby for the tumour on my spine (at T5), so I don't think I'd want to risk compounding it for a cosmetic issue, even though modern radiation therapy is very low risk. So I guess I'll pick hot flushes over more gynecomastia (especially since the hot flushes aren't as bad as they used to be).
Sorry for you to have these, really. I got a prescription from my PCP for Venlafaxine, 37.5 mg twice daily, and I got relief.
I saw one comment about not sleeping well while on Venlafaxine.
I was already taking Trazodone for sleep issues. If the Venlafaxine helps with the flashes, ask your Doctor about sleep medication.
Best of luck to you!
I'm embarrassed to admit that I've resorted to dime-store potions, but the Black Cohosh I've been taking has helped a lot with hot flashes. I've been sleeping much better since I started taking it. I got it at Target.
Maybe next I'll start taking Prevagin and boost my IQ!
