Any other woman of a similar age to myself with osteoporosis found hrt helpful quickly? I am just so scared of the other drugs. I have had no fractures yet but I feel they are imminent !!

Hi bboon44. Very interested in your account regarding the Covid . I have never caught covid at all however I was talked into having the awful vaccination and immediately after the second and last jab in 2021 my SI joint pain started up and my bone density began to drop . I had a fall down stairs and hit a hard floor beginning of 2020 just as Covid began and before jab . I never fractured or broke a single bone !! Now I have severe SI joint pain and osteoporosis!! Life changing . I also have benign lytic lesions in my neck. Otherwise I am very healthy ! I am the one who is scared to take the drugs for osteoporosis as I react badly to meds as I am very slim and only weigh 48kgs ( 106 lbs) . I will be starting HRT today plus testosterone small amount . I hope I can tolerate it as it may be my only hope !! It’s very interesting having feedback from these people on the Mayo site . I live in England. Keep it up .

Since you live in England and so can be prescribed LIVIAL (Tibolone), have you considered that medication?

No as it’s synthetic. I prefer to carry on trying the BHRT with testosterone even only in small doses . Also I have just ordered collagen peptides with fortibone. Fingers crossed. No fractures at 74;yrs. very low scores on L3 .

@tiny28 I hope you experience improvement with the Fortibone. The most significant change for me is not feeling so frail. I have just recently gone back to resistant exercises, time under tension and feel very secure so far. Please keep us updated once you get your next dexi. I hope you experience good things with the fortibone.

Hello, yes I hope so too. It’s called bone balance but it’s the same as fortibone. I will start it tomorrow. Still trying to persevere with the bhrt but only the testosterone and utrogestan at moment. Having dizzy turns but not sure that’s relevant to the hormones . I wish I could do resistance training or any kind of gym work but my sacroiliac joints just won’t let me. I really miss it. Last night I was up all night taking painkillers etc. and using ice packs for the nerve pain. It rules my life and prevents me from doing the things I love . I have tried steroid jabs and nerve desensitising procedures but they don’t work on me. It seems I have ti live with both chronic pain and osteoporosis. Will keep positive and try to do my best . Good luck either way your journey and will keep you updated .

HRT generally is not recommended for women who’ve been more than 10 years past beginning menopause but some women who are relatively healthy may be a candidate. It requires a deep dive with your PCP or GYN reviewing your health history to see whether you’re a candidate.

Following this conversation closely as a 72 yo with just-diagnosed osteoporosis and a desire to not automatically go to something like Fosamax, and deeply annoyed that my peer group was denied HRT when we needed it. Now what? Curious about tiny28's experience with HRT. If you are still there, tiny28, can you fill us in on your experience so far?

@crampon yes hello. I couldn’t get in with BHRT unfortunately as it seemed to make me feel quite odd. It lowers blood pressure . I am taking pure fortibone for my osteoporosis and calcium and D3.

Would suggest you also explore other conversations and discussions in Women's Health, Menopause and Osteoporosis. I was 76 when I started bhrt (estradiol and testosterone pellet, progesterone and estradiol vaginal cream). Although I knew that it would benefit my bones I also know that I could not expect it to reverse Osteoporosis. My primary reasons for starting bhrt were different and I have had great results overall. I have taken fosomax, forteo, evenity and prolia. I have not had noticeable side effects from any. Is fosomax the only drug discussed so far? I would mention, as you do your research, that sequencing of Osteoporosis drugs is important. Much of the current thinking is that one should start with an anabolic rather than a bisphosphonate. However I don't know your medical history, your dexa scores and I am not an endocrinologist. If you do your own research this will be so helpful in developing a treatment plan with your doc. Let us know how it is going
