What holistic relief works on sciatic nerve pain?

Posted by walker4 @walker4, Mar 10 12:21pm

I have been suffering from sciatica nerve pain that goes down my left buttock, leg, and foot. I do not tolerate medications well. A spinal injection further damaged my spine, and it is still burning, seven years later. Has anyone found something that helps with this severe pain??

@gravity3 I need to get out my heating pad because it really did help. A hot shower helps, too. I have also used 4% lidocaine patches, and they do help, but they have gone up in price. This sciatica runs 24/7. It is much worse in cold weather, which includes rainy or snowy weather. Has pain affected you this way? I am so glad that you are feeling better!

@walker4

Much better now. I also have exercises at home from pt. The steroid shot that I had for my chronic back issues must have kicked in and helped. I am so sorry to hear that you are in pain 24/7. Have you had relief from anything?

I put hands on wall and raise each leg in back of me...that's the only thing that helps...but I will try heat...

@srquser WOW!! After only two treatments of acupuncture, you are now pain-free? Does your insurance cover acupuncture? Medicare does not cover that procedure.

@walker4 No - 2 treatments only made my pain bearable. But a few more & I became totally pain free. I am still in shock over the outcome. Unfortunately it is not covered by insurance or Medicare, Being paid for out of my kids’ inheritance! 🙂

@sbcarcht I have spinal stenosis, too, at L5-S-1 and it is degenerative. I try to walk as often and as far as I can, on a weekly basis. It helps to get outside and enjoy nature again. Now we are back indoors because of cold, snowy weather after being 89 degrees yesterday. We need spring which will help with this severe pain.

@walker4 I’m an architect, not a doctor, but I anticipate a more upright posture that spreads out weight on discs and minimizes pinching as in the Gokhale Method, would be helpful even in the case of degenerative disc issues.

I had the same issue in 2012. Suffered with it for over a year. Someone suggested acupuncture and that worked amazingly well. 6 sessions and the overall pain was gone. It still flairs up if I push my back too aggressively but I say give it a try. Research a good acupuncture professional in your area.
