Closed intestine after successful whipple
After successful Whipple surgery my husband is now cancer free but still on a soft diet due to a closure of the small intestine that is attached to his stomach. Two stent placements have been unsuccessful. They are talking about opening him up again to reroute the intestine. Any other suggestions?

would strongly consider getting a second opinion at Froedtert Hospital in Wisconsin with Dr. Douglas B. Evans.
Dr. Evans is widely regarded as one of the leading pancreatic surgeons in the United States and has extensive experience with complex post-Whipple complications and surgical revisions. When you are dealing with an anastomotic stricture after a Whipple procedure, having someone who has performed a very high volume of these operations review the case can make a meaningful difference.
Even if you ultimately proceed locally, a second opinion from a high-volume pancreatic center can either confirm the plan or present additional options you may not have considered.
In a situation like this, expertise matters.

6 Reactions@rperry123, how are you and your husband doing? Is he scheduled for surgery? Will he be getting a stoma?
He is currently in the hospital getting TPN to boost his blood before surgery scheduled for March 23. What is a stoma?
@rperry123, I wish both of you the best outcome for surgery.
A stoma is an opening on the surface of the abdomen surgically created to divert the flow of faeces or urine, like a colostomy (opening from the colon) or an illeostomy (from the small intestine).
@Colleen young
He recently had a “redo” of the intestine that was being kinked due to scar tissue. The surgeon removed part of the intestine and bowel and reattached them. Lots of scar tissue removal due to build up. Hoping the bowel starts working before discharge.
