He is currently in the hospital getting TPN to boost his blood before surgery scheduled for March 23. What is a stoma?

A stoma is an opening on the surface of the abdomen surgically created to divert the flow of faeces or urine, like a colostomy (opening from the colon) or an illeostomy (from the small intestine).
