Weighted vest or vibration plate

Posted by friend123 @friend123, Jun 9, 2024

I just invested in a weighted vest which I use when taking walks. Has anyone tried the vibration plates? Seems like there are mixed opinions on both. Has anyone seen any success with these? Thanks

I use both. I walk daily with a weighted vest and I use the Marodyne LiV plate 3 times per day. My DEXA scans improved dramatically after 2 years and then showed stable readings the subsequent two years which is not usually the case at my age so it’s a win. I started eating 50 grams of prunes per day to add another bone health item in the mix. Will see how the numbers look next year!

@z3french9 --- wow, prunes help?

Yes. Do a bit of googling and you can see the research on this. You need to eat 50-100 grams per day though…

@meri8181 Yes, I understand your view. I have a vibrating plate (guaranteed for life--found on Amazon as used) and it really helps my neuropathy.

@meri8181 -- I was lucky to get this used --from Amazon--for $199 -- which included tax--- "Rumblex 4D Vibration Plate" and it has a lifetime guarantee. Otherwise they sell for 2x as much.--- Hope you can be lucky too.

I’ve been considering a vibration plate even though I have slight scoliosis due to a degenerative disc. I think my good old body can handle 30hz and the lowest amp possible starting slow and working up to 10 minutes. All my life I have been athletic. I really think my diet messed me up the most. I was a vegetarian for too many years without paying attention to my protein needs.

I am still considering but right now am thinking of buying the VT007 @ vibrationtherapeutic.com. The maker of that device challenges Marodyne with his machine which can do similar vertical low vibration at 30hz but can do higher as well which makes it more versatile. He is an engineer and he developed the device which is made in Minnesota. He has an informative and very helpful website with the best information I’ve found explaining vibration plates in general and also comparing what he has developed to Marodyne and Power Plate. His device is much less expensive than Marodyne and Power Plate with a 10 year warranty and 90 day trial with free return. At least if it doesn’t work out one hasn’t lost as much money and one can return the device free of charge within 90 days. I would like to hear more about your weighted vest. If used correctly and with a safe weight I think that could help me also. My doctor said “no” but I think the doctors I deal with will say no to anything outside their realm of experience/knowledge.

@z3french9 prunes help with bone density? Do you also have a vibration plate?

Luckily, I did two Reclast infusions and it definitely showed great improvements. I also do some weight lifting, walking with a weighted vest, and I do eat about four to five prunes a day. I never invested in the vibration plate. But honestly my doctor told me just simply walking is the best exercise. Hope this helps!

@patwerthman I bought the VT007 and have been using it for a year. I’m not due for a dexa scan so who knows if it’s helping. I don’t think it’s hurting anything. I wish I could find local trainers who know more about LIFTMOR and Belinda Beck’s research. I think diet and strength training are our best bets for managing without drugs.

Hello everyone!
I'm 75 years old and overall in excellent health!
But...I'm hoping to take Evenity starting January 2027 so that I only pay one OOP deductible for the year--even so the $2,100 cost is a challenge. In the meantime I'm concentrating on good nutrition and exercise to maintain and hopefully even somewhat improve my osteopenia of my spine and osteoporosis of my forearm. I had a wonderfully successful double hip replacement 20 years ago, therefore hip x-ray is not possible, my knees are fine, I'm a former competitive gymnast and ballroom champion).

I have a vibration plate purchased via Amazon for $139.99 which appears to be very sturdy--hubby is an engineer who told me he's sure he could fix it if need be. So far so good.
Regarding weighted vests, I've purchased several and returned them all as they were so uncomfortable, but I'll keep looking:) I usually walk several miles daily along with some biking, Pilates, Yoga and light weights (but I only lift 1, 2 and 5 lbs and combinations of them at this point until I'm stronger). I have a torn rotator cuff that is not able to be repaired at this point so I proceed carefully--I start some Rehab PT in two weeks. I also use my own body weight for some exercises)!
Any suggestions on weight-lifting and weighted vests would be appreciated!
