Recurring shingles

Posted by sdumas0001 @sdumas0001, Jan 19, 2025

I have had shingles on the right side of my right knee...7 times in the last 2 years. I am sure this is not normal. Buy my doctor does not seem too concerned. I am concerned due to the continued zinger nerve pain that I have in that spot all of the time now. Also, I have been previously diagnosed with epstein barr virus and chronic fatigue syndrome so when the shingles hits me; I feel so irritable and miserable. It makes my chronic fatigue flare up and I just have to let everything run its course. My doctor gives me a stand-by prescription of an antiviral medicine to help shorten the shingles cycle. Can someone help me figure out why this is happening. Should I find another doctor? Should I just press the issue more with my current doctor?

Have you tried taking Lysine as soon as you feel the tingling? It works for me rather quickly and seems to stop viral replication.

@vostie that is great. It does not work as well as that for me, although I think it helps.

As far as the zinger nerve is concerned, applying capsasin cream is helpful in healing a nerve like this. It may take a few weeks, but it works. It has been established that the COVID spike protein has triggered recurring episodes of shingles and a few other scourages. Anytime you feel you are not working together with your doctor, it is a good time to investigate a second opinion. I have a doctor that I work with. This is a much more successful arrangement. As far as why it is happening, there are other reasons it might be happening. What could cause your immune system to be compromised? That is the real issue. God speed in your pursuit.

Stress is my trigger. And I take Valacyclovir when I feel the shingles come. She does not want to put me on a daily antiviral medicine. And does not recommend the shingles vaccine. I will ask about a topical. Thank you.

@sdumas0001, I concur with your doctor about the vaccines and treatment. It is a horribly aggravating disease, but there are things that can trigger recurrence. I found that the tingly, itchy rash that lingered after shingles was actually not related to shingles at all. The meds prescribed are great! Maybe you might see a dermatologist.

I had a shingles outbreak when I was 28 years old. And now at 53 I've had at least 6 other outbreaks. It has now jumped from the original spot to a new nerve and I just discovered it again tonight. I have Valtrex that I keep on hand and I'm supposed to take a low dose daily but so.etimes I just hate having to take pills everyday. It's probably been 8 months since I've had to take Valtrex. In my opinion the vaccine won't help you, people say u have nothing to lose, yes you do, you have to be 100% ok with injecting something into your body. After 32 of nursing I'm much more careful what I allow in my body. Food, drink, vaccine, none of them enter me without a conscious decision. I've had too many health problems and watched too many others suffer from our sick care model. There is nothing healthy about our health care. However I can say it does pay the bills. But I'm being educated in other ways such as the commenter who recommended supplements and checking your iodine level. Don't give up, an answer will come your way
