Now what? How will I be notified about my Mayo Clinic appointments?

Posted by readinglamb @readinglamb, Mar 3 9:24pm

I was accepted by the Oral and Maxillofacial Dept last Friday for a consult. Was told to watch my messages for an appointment offer. How soon should I be expecting the appt offer message? I know my actual first visit can be months down the road and that's ok. I'm just worried I'll miss an appointment offer. So how do they work? Is it a first come first serve type of thing where whomever logs into their account first and accepts the appt gets it? Or is it person specific? Any other helpful info I should know while I wait?! Thanks!!

@hrhwilliam Thank you for this information!! It makes so much more sense as to how they do things and the wait times etc. I appreciate it so much!! I was just scheduled for my consult yesterday actually! I only need to wait a month for it, so not too bad. I'm at an advantage as I am local-ish to Rochester. Just a few hours drive time, so nothing major. Easily able to go there and home in the same day.

@readinglamb same for me, only 4.5 hour drive from N Illinois. So just up the road to the best healthcare anywhere. Good healing.

@hrhwilliam I'm in NW Wisconsin. Lol. So Another out of state patient! They did just schedule me for an MRI of my TMJ but it's 2 weeks before my consult. Like you suggested before, I wasn't expecting that to happen. Figured the order was for a same day imaging appointment. Is this kinda thing common?

@readinglamb
That is inconvenient if you were planning a single trip to Rochester. I suggest you call and ask if you can move the MRI to the same day as the consult. Or maybe the day before and stay in Rochester overnight. Sometimes, when scheduling an MRI, they will book the 1st available slot for MRI and then schedule a consult appt afterward. They usually try to accommodate your schedule when possible. Worth a phone call to see if rescheduling is possible.

@roch Oh?! Really?! I didn't know if that was something I could do. I figured they scheduled it when they did because they wanted it ahead of time. I'll give them a call in the AM. Thank you!

@readinglamb I agree. Give them a call. Make sure they understand you are out of state. I guess I take that for granted because my team knows that already. You might get an evening scan the night before or a very early scan. Either way it’s an overnight but Rochester is a nice city to visit.

@hrhwilliam I just logged in now to grab the phone number from the appt note, it was already rescheduled for day of appt!! It's now 2 ish hours before my consult with Dr Fillmore. So yay!! That's a win for me! Also very funny they did it without me having to call in!

Dr. Fillmore is great! He did my jaw joint replacement. You will be in good hands.
