Need support for Valium taper

Posted by katnewton @katnewton, Feb 27 1:49pm

It has been a long road of 5 months trying to taper off of Valium and looking for support that this will end. That it can be done and I won’t suffer forever. Anyone have any pearls of wisdom or words of advice to be optimistic? The withdrawal symptoms are anxiety and stomach upset. My taper is 1 mg a month. I’m at 9.5 now. I wrote before looking for support and several were very helpful. Anyone else that can help with successful or optimistic stories? Thank you very much.

I understand. Can you ask your doctor about propranolol? It really helps with the cortisol level and anxiety. I have seen a therapist for several years now, since I got sober. I try to do breathing exercises. I am so sorry that you are having nausea and shaking. Are you able to go and walk? I used to run but can't now due to some health issues. Exercise helped me just get the stress the hell out of me. I also listen to sleep meditations at night. I applaud your strength and resilience in working on the trauma. It is not easy. It is definitely a journey but staying in the present (which is hard for me) does help when I remember that today is it. I hope your doctor will help the physical symptoms your are experiencing.

@diverdown1 thank you so much for your support and inspiration. It’s been so difficult. I am changing psychiatrists so I’ll ask about meds that can help. I’m Leary of mixing meds but that’s my fear coming up. I just want off if this. I can’t eat normally. Took my appetite away so I’m eating two meals the same every day and a meal replacement drink to keep my weight stabilized. Thank you again for your kindness. It’s can be very lonely as you probably know.
