Post aquablation & an overactive bladder

Posted by Flipboy59 @bobpuli, Jul 28, 2025

I just had aquablation 4 weeks ago and now I have an overactive bladder. Does anyone had this procedure done and had the same outcome?

I certainly hope this is not normal - planning for Aquablation in April.
I would see the urologist right away if I was in your shoes!

@sorentj yeah I've read every post on multiple boards and never heard of anything like this. Don't worry about your upcoming procedure, it's going to go great and you're going to very pleased you did it. I wish I had done it years earlier.

On Dec 19th I had prostate surgery (Aquablation). At first the surgery appeared to be successful. However, I started having some issues soon after. I needed to visit the emergency room. I woke up with complete urinary retention. The head of my penis swelled to the size of a golf ball and the pain was excruciating to say the least. The blockage was so bad that even after four attempts with four various size catheters the nurses could not get a catheter in place even with the hardened tip. Somehow the last attempt at least moved the blockage somewhat so some urine could slowly drain.
They took a urine sample an found blood in the urine and a bladder infection. I just finished taking Keflex 500 Mg. I am in constant pain. I still have continued urinary frequency and am unable to get a good nights rest. I am up at least 6 times during the evening to relieve myself. This isn't counting the number of times during the day. My pain when relieving myself is about a 7 and I have to force the urine from my system. My penis feels bloated and the only way to get the urine completely out is by continually squeezing my penis until it empties. In addition, I am starting to get lower right back pain. I still have two weeks until I get in to see my Urologist.
Is this something I should not be concerned with and just wait it out.

Well I'll see how this works out after my urologist visit on Feb 18. I'll keep everyone up to speed with the results.

Just had my visit with the urologist finally after a month of forcing the urine from my penis and getting the urine completely out by continually squeezing my penis until it empties. The visit found that I had sever urethral stricture which was causing the blockage. I don't know why it took so long to get in to see my urologist, but that's another story.
During the visit the urologist tried to relieve the stricture by scaping the urethral. This was so painful without any type of sedation. After a few minutes of pulling me off the ceiling, he decided to perform a Optilume Dilation of the Urethral Stricture under anesthesia. This procedure will be done on Feb 27.
The scraping did help as I am now able to relieve myself somewhat more efficient.
More to follow!

Hell's bells, I can't even get a catheter in me without anesthesia. I would not have been on the ceiling; I'd have been two floors higher. I'm seeing my Doctor for the first time after my aquablation on 3/19, and one of the issues I plan on talking to him about is that I also need to squeeze my penis at the end of my urination, which is the whole point of my getting the aquablation.

Thanks for this. I will ask if this applies to me.

Sounds like you may have a stricture. That was the symptom I had until I had the Optilume Dilation of the Urethral. Let me know what you find out.

I had my Optilume Dilation of the Urethral Stricture and it has been a life savor. I don't have any blockage and am having a good flow. This has been a trying time since I had my aquablation on Dec 17. What a journey. Still getting up a few times during the evening so hopefully this will change in the next few weeks.
