Ablation

Posted by greatestj @greatestj, Feb 13 10:02am

I was diagnosed with afib and SVT after fainting and being rushed to Emergency. But i never feel it when my heart is racing. My cardiologist recommended ablation and i did it 2 days ago. I am having no after effects, Pain or discomfort. Is it unusual to feel great after doing an ablation?

Yup, I sure did. 😀 Had eye surgery, a vitrectomy, on my left eye a few days ago and the gas bubbled and fluid the ophthalmologist left behind interferes with my vision. I must have missed it.

Thanks, nevets. 'UNdesired' it should be.

Discussions here are very helpful but I’m still in debate if I should go ahead for an ablation right away. I’m 72 and have AFib for about 5 years. I started taking Sotalol 80mg last year and it helped putting AFib down. However, it becomes less effective nowadays and I have AFib occurring almost everyday. Should I consider to switch medication or ask doctor to schedule an ablation?

@wyu8882 AF is a progressive disorder. In time, it can mess with your heart. It can cause enlarged ventricles and atria, result in prolapsed mitral valve, and it can eventually lead to heart failure. This is all easily found widely on the internet with google searches like, 'What is the progressive nature of atrial fibrillation?'

Ablation is the 'gold standard of care' currently. If done by a good electrophysiologist, it can halt AF for months, years, decades. When your heart is functioning in normal sinus rhythm, it doesn't progress toward these other desired outcomes. So, an ablation is probably your best bet. My uneducated opinion, of course...

Hi all,
I am have been battling SVTs for years. It has just recently(in the last year) become such a problem that it interferes with my everyday life. Some days it is all day, any time I do anything(stand up, yawn too big, brush my teeth, walk more than a few steps). I went to the doctor and they are doing another holter monitor but the appointment to put it on is still a month away. The dr has mentioned an ablation and at this point I hope that we can do that ASAP. I am glad to read these comments where it has helped others, it gives me hope that it can help me too.

@bdavis1123 Hello, I am now 2 weeks post ablation and I am feeling really good. I totally understand the impact it has on your everyday life. Now that I have had the ablation, I realise how badly it was affecting mine and how rubbish I felt. I hope you get some resolution soon. Take care.
