Orgovyx and non-sexual relationships

Posted by guybe @guybe, Feb 28 8:22am

I started on Orgovyx this week (5 days now), and already have begun to feel some of the expected side effects related to erections and orgasms. Much has been written about those, with everyone's experience being different. From my experience already (and my "baseline" status) I think I can expect a profound, perhaps complete, reduction in libido. To make the best of it, I am trying to explore in a positive way what castration will mean to my identity and my social (and formerly sexual) relationships - specifically, whether there is an advantage due to "eunuch calm" in relationships, especially with women, but also in traditional male-to-male social relations. I am trying to set myself up for happiness over the next two years or so of my journey. Much appreciation in advance for the benefit of your experience.

'Eunuch calm' ha ha thats a good one..I like post nut clarity but 24/7 ( semantics !) either one you choose, its real..but for me, not too big a deal..since I am mid 70's and lived and stroked thru 'free love era' and was always around .300 hitter...have not had an orgasm since July '25...

Yes Orgovyx shuts it down...but take heart..just walk in bedroom in coveralls with tool belt and assorted vibrators...and play repair man fantasy...I doubt many will worry about you and lack of orgasm as long as they get a electrical BIG O...a fat wallet with $100s peaking out and attentive disposition will also carry far...

it has come up a couple of times ( pardon the pun) but when I explained, the gals didn seem too concerned...so IMO, I wouldnt worry too much about it..take a hiatus from the old in /out...it is actually a bit refreshing !

One of the doctors at a meeting I attend talked about the effects of ADT on him. He was no longer constantly horny, like he used to be. It was sort of relief because his medical treatment was no longer affected by those thoughts.

I know for me it sure did make a change in my daily thinking. No longer having that need for relief. It doesn’t stop me from thinking about it from time to time, especially when seeing attractive women.

My experience was a bit different. I lost spontaneous desire, i.e. thinking about sex for no reason, but did not lose responsive desire, i.e. could still be stimulated by touch, kissing, etc. and was functional with Viagra. At the four month point, though, I lost the ability to reach orgasm which was frustrating.

Unrelated to sex, I got pretty severe depression from ADT and had some suicidal thoughts. I waited too long to bring these to my doctor's attention. Was given Wellbutrin which increased my energy very quickly and, about four weeks later, started to improve my mood. This doesn't happen to everyone--hopefully you will just get the calm you seek!

On the positive side, ADT made my empathy level for others go through the roof. Now that treatment is over I've tried to maintain that.

Though my libido went to zero while on hormone therapy, everything still worked. From what I was told by my medical oncologist, the key is to continue doing it, despite the “want to” not being there.

So, my reduction in libido didn’t affect my performance.

Though I have no data to support this (only my MO’s advice that it would work - and it did), my experience not having ED while on ADT might be related to me ramping up my resistance-training exercise and cardio programs to minimize the side-effects of hormone therapy; that might(?) also have the side-benefit of keeping the blood flowing “down there” as well; I don’t know. Libido eventually returned to normal when testosterone returned to normal.

As it turned out, it wasn’t worth worrying about.

While I was on Orgovyx my libido went to zero, but since I am a widower that wasn't much a problem. Saved time and energy not masturbating. However, I was still interested in women and after my proton therapy, while still on Orgovyx, I had a date and while kissing her goodnight the plumbing did respond as usual, so maybe libido wasn't zero after all. A couple months later, after stopping Orgovyx, my testosterone returned and so did my libido.

What I've read says the ADT drugs drop the testosterone and libido. However the ability to have an erection and orgasm is not affected. Of course this is in the context of other interventions too.

@xahnegrey40 LOL!!! At this point ‘they just need to be held’…and possibly be assured that they have a life estate in your house…😉

My experience...

12 months on Orgovyx, some genitalia shrinkage but...I did not lose my libido not ability to achieve erections and orgasms.

Whenever I saw my oncologist during those 12 months his nurse would ask as part of the work up if I was experiencing ED...I said no, which was an honest answer. What I really wanted to say was you should ask my wife, she's the one with no desire or passion. Of course, with my wife sitting there I'm no fool.

One definition of a sexless marriage is < 10 times a year. Heck, I can go. All decade + and not achieve that!

I digress, apologies!

Achieving erections and orgasms for me is assisted by daily 5 mg Cialis. It's not spontaneous but with (self...) physical and mental stimulation, quick and intense, albeit dry as a result of surgery.

Again, my experience! Why? I don't know. Surgery, SRT, twice on ADT...never lost libido or ability to achieve erections and orgasms.

Others are right in their suggestions that sex other than penetrative can be "enjoyable."

While on ADT, I had no desire. While on ADT, I met an attractive female who was very friendly & thought nothing of it. After my doctor took me off of ADT, I saw the woman again & noticed that she was attractive. Unfortunately, her interest had now waned.

C'est la vie.
