Compare Eliquis and Xarelto, regarding muscle weakness and other side
My cardiologist is suggesting I switch to Xarelto since I am having a lot of muscle weakness effects from Eliquis. But, in my reading about Xarelto, it seems to have MORE side effects of muscle weakness as well as other side effects. What are your experiences?

I find the regular dosage of Eliquis (5mg x 2 / day) is too strong resulting in bleeding & bruising problems - more importantly, nose and non cancerous prostate bleeds. I have been told prostates bleed sometimes because of the old fashioned TURP surgery. When I cut back to 1 and 1/2 5mg tablets all bleeding stops. Eliquis should make a dosage less than 5mg; the 2mg they offer is too small. Anyone have similar issues?
I am new to using Eliquis, Doctor put me on 5mg twice daily after my pacemaker showed I had AFIB for only 3 hours in 6 months.
I asked why do I need to take it- The reply was because of my age, weight, and having AFIB once etc.
I didn't like that answer so I went to 2.5 mg every 12 hrs. on my own.
I do still have muscle weakness- not sure if from Eliquis or ???
I had a blood clot after total knee replacement. I was put on Eliquis, 45 days to start and bad experience, my joints hurt, not just my legs but my shoulders, arms, etc. So after the 45 days they changed me to Xarelto. 30 days on it was too much; it was worse than Eliquis, even my ribs were hurting. Then back to Eliquis for 2 weeks. Finally off of both and put on aspirin, once per day; but I still after ten days am having some joint pain, getting better though. They were both bad for me. I wish you luck with these.
Thanks for relating your experiences. I reduced my Eliquis dosage to 2.5 mg, once a day, even though it is is supposedly not a "therapeutic dose". My current body symptoms are a lot of nerve tingling and thickness in my toes and legs. The hematologist I recently saw, a new one to me, recommended Lovenox. I have done a little research and it seems like it is "stronger" than Eliquis and Xarelto in terms of even more potential serious side effects. I am meeting with an elcetrophysioloigst in a couple weeks to discuss the watchman procedure, but I don't think I want to have surgery either. I am more inclined to use diet and supplements, maybe aspirin, too, and stay off the "hard drugs". I continue to gather information. ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCES WiTH LOVENOX?
@jer22 Thanks for sharing your experiences. I reduced my dosage to 2.5 mg of Eliquis, ONCE A DAY, ( I did inform my cardiologist) and my joint instability is a little bit better. However I have unexplained neuropathy..... I feel really frustrated because the doctors don't want you to not take a blood thinner, and that's the only way to find out if the drug is the cause of the symptoms.

1 ReactionI wish there were a blood test to evaluate how Eliquis is affecting the thickness of one's blood, so I could find out the right minimum dosage necessary FOR ME as an individual, instead of assuming that my body, which is slender and highly sensitive to many substances, is the same as someone who eats a standard typical diet, doesn't exercise, and is obese. So far, I have been told no such test exists.
