How do I cope with Paxil side effects, I’m desperate!!
I’m currently on Paxil, antidepressant for 4 weeks, I have more side effects than I can count, my dose is low due to drug sensitivity but it still torments me. I shouldn’t even be taking this drug because it’s bad for seniors, I never have an easy time with these drugs but I used it years ago and it was helpful, not anymore. I desperately want to get off of it but It’s also very hard to do so, the side effects can get worse trying. I’m truly at the end of my rope with little room to tie another knot, help is limited and I feel so exhausted, any advice would be appreciated.

well i can as a senior as i take a lot of meds and deal with anxiety, depression and PTSD OCD and lastly ADHD. yeah never knew until i had brain surgery Twice. that was a lot of typing on my brain.
Breathing technique, be sitting or stand, your choice. breathe in through your nose as much as you can then out the mouth like blowing through a straw easy smooth routine, do that till your heart rate backs off. next if your able sit on the side of your bed or couch, just somewhere you can sit relaxed. now fingers on one hand at a time tap thumb to pinky finger then next finger and so on
to pointer finger then use other hand and repeat. for this 3 sets each hand then two sets with your eyes closed, lastly one more breathing exercise twice. see how you feel
@randallshields56 This sounds like a method to distract me from my side effects? I have done some similar things like focusing on objects in the background starting with two things then two more and so on, I understand the effect it has, sometimes when I have a busy day or I get into conversation with someone my symptoms ease up a little, I also used to do crossword puzzles for hours but I started struggling with keeping my attention focused. I just wish I could find a medication that helps me settle down and get more sleep then the rest will come along afterwards, thanks Randal for your help.

2 ReactionsI have a very simple solution. Try another SSRI. There is no drug that doesn’t have side effects. If you find one let me know.
Your other option is to be depressed the rest of your life.
There are other SSRI”s that might work for you and it may take time to find one. It will be time well spent.
Good luck to you.
@frouke well thank you for letting me know, i also am recovering from cancer along with the other stuff . here this week was having trouble sleeping and staying asleep after an early bathroom break. i am not a doctor but my daughter studies on all my meds and consults with my doctors, she had me take a benedryl.25 mg and a Naprosyn for the aches. everyone is different but the last two nights i got better sleep and was able to go back to sleep after bathroom break. i also do word search puzzles and count things in the room, that's all from prior coaching. I'm just happy to be alive and turn 70 this year. hope you have a blessed day.
@daveshaw I have been doing this on and off for several years, sometimes I need a break from it especially when cancer returns because I need my energy to get through this. I agree with you that there's no drug out there that doesn't come with side effects, sometimes I think that Big Pharma plans it this way so that you need more drugs to counteract the symptoms from the others, a little conspiracy theory but prove me wrong anytime, I'm listening, thank you for your response, Frouke.
@frouke I am not big on conspiracy theories. I just think big pharma charges this country more for the same drugs than it does for the rest of the world. That is because of lobbyists and greedy politicians.
Big Pharma has done great things for people battling depression and anxiety. Hopefully better things are on the horizon.
Good luck in finding the right combination for you.
Try Zoloft, Wellbutrin and Buspar. Wellbutrin and Buspar complement Zoloft.
Enjoy your weekend.
@randallshields56 Thank you for your support, I find it so rewarding to get help from fellow beings and hear that you're not alone, even though we're far apart the gap closes when sharing, you have certainly been through a lot and yet you still try to be there for other people, you're a good soul , God bless you and keep you safe, Amen,

1 Reaction@daveshaw Thank you Dave, you have a strong and positive attitude and it helps me a lot, I too don't like conspiracy theories but I've seen a lot of damage all these drugs can do and it made me very cautious even somewhat phobic but I know that I need help with medication and I have to keep trying to fight back, I hope you have a good weekend too, thank you.
