I have seen multiple references suggesting that Lithium and Magnesium ‘compete’ at an enzymatic level- which confused me. So I have been in search of insight. I am asking a lot of that biochem class in my quite distant past, but I figure I can get the gist.

@pb50 "Long-term lithium" must surely apply to psychiatric LiC at massive doses. Wouldn't surprise me if LiO "micro" dose is an entirely different situation. My dim recollection of long ago (last week) reading last year's Harvard LiO study, is that unlike LiC it's easily metabolized without magnesium because it's binding to the neural MCI antagonist(s).

1 ReactionCant be sure. But agree the most likely clinical population taking Lithium - albeit Lithium Carbonate - would be for bipolar treatment at much greater dosage.
