im wondering if the drop in my EGFR is normal for my age
hello everyone, my EGFR has dropped for 115 ml/min down to 97.4 ml/min within 1.5 years and I'm wondering if that's normal for a 29 year old male since every test its lower and they say my test are normal.

In my opinion you should not be worried about one test. To be sure that it is a problem you would need more than one test. Also check the other things your bloodwork says.
@silentstorm Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! You will see there are several discussions already that speak to drops in eGFR values and what is okay/what is a concern.
We most often look at trends, rather than a one-time test result. There are many factors that can affect a result. Your level of hydration, were you recently ill, time of day/how long since last meal, even a different processing lab to handle the blood samples.
What does your doctor say about the decrease?

2 Reactions@margarethill thanks for the response and i should have mentioned that i have had 3 cmp test done, the first 1 was on 8/2024 and my EGFR was 115, the second test was done on 11/2025 and my EGFR was 110 , and the third test was done on 2/2026 with a EGFR of 97.4 so 3 test show a steady trend of it going down
@gingerw thanks for the response and i should have mentioned that I have had 3 cmp test done, the first 1 was on 8/2024 and my EGFR was 115, the second test was done on 11/2025 and my EGFR was 110 , and the third test was done on 2/2026 with a EGFR of 97.4 so 3 test show a steady trend of it going down. the reason for all these tests is that I have had swollen lymph nodes in my neck since April of 2024 and the dr I'm going to says my tests are fine and that its most likely just an infection that causes all my issues, but to me i think its something else since i started with 1 swollen lymph nodes that bigger than 1cm and now i have multiple that are 1cm with them not going away.
@silentstorm Your eGFR numbers are awesome! Have you had the concerns of the swollen lymph nodes addressed with your doctor, yet? Besides the eGFR values there are other results that would be cobbled together to get a clear picture of what is going on.
eGFR can be complicated by our hydration levels, time of day a sample is taken, if you recently exercised, or medications. Even a change in the processing lab.

2 Reactions@gingerw yes the hematologist I have been going to thinks I'm fine and that there swollen due to an infection and has prescribed 2 antibiotics over the 1.5 years I have been going to him which didn't fix the problem of them being swollen and his nurse team was adamant that I took the other antibiotic I was prescribed recently for something else to see if that one would fix the issue which it didn't and I'll be seeing him again in august for my next appointment.
