Chronic Back Pain for Years
6 back surgeries (extensive cervical and lumbar fusions) with neurological complications. Left with chronic pain. Accident happened in Nursing career 1992 and worked with first fusions until 1999 (failed fusions). At my age, and as a former nurse educator, I never wanted to had to rely on medication/s for the severe pain. Having thoroughly exhausted exploring sites using non-pharmaceutical methods, using psychological methods, biofeedback, trying to accept my limitations, i.e., I still believe somewhere...out there...is hope. The strong medicine has caused gastroparesis, further complicating my health problems. They are too numerous to write and I will not focus on them. I am looking for "help" and guidance. If I can be of assistance to anyone throughout their trials, (perhaps similar to some of what I have gone through), I will.

No, your not blabbering. pain free day huh. That day was probably back in the 60’s. I was one of the lucky ones. My gp prescribed my fenytl (sp) she had no problem with it, fantastic stuff too. Eventually I tried to live without it and although I missed how helpful it was my doc made it so simple and easy to get off. My concern is it’s
Molecular shape being changed when subjected to heat. I’m glad it helps you and other thought
@jakedduck1 and @grandmar FYI: True medical marijuana is not inhaled. If someone is inhaling they are using marijuana recreationally. Medical marijuana is either drops in the mouth or an oil or cream placed on the skin.
addiction to opioids among chronic pain sufferers is EXTREMELY low; the exact number being 1 in every 130 users. As for cannibis, I can't smoke either. In Califa where it's legal, one can get medicinal cannibis that's truly powerful, nothing like what we had in the 60s; and it works extremely well. It's just too strong for me. One hit from a vape pen and I can't walk for 4 hours! I quit the pain clinic so am taking nothing, and the pain has led to suicidal thoughts. After 45 years of pain, I don't know if I can take it.

Medical marijuana comes in all forms. All those forms can make you high and be used recreationally if people choose to. Please direct us to the citation and source for your statement that true medical marijuana is not inhaled. I am curious where that idea came from as I have never heard or read that before. I know cancer sufferers and others with seizure problems inhale marijuana for medical use.

I'm so glad you found the Mayo Connect Community and this thread. I'm very concerned about your situation. I'm a Volunteer Mentor with Mayo Connect and not a medical professional therefore I cannot make medical diagnoses or give medical advice. I can offer my experience, knowledge, and support.
In order to get to know you better and welcome you to the community, please tell me about what brought you to the Chronic pain thread here. Only share as much as you feel comfortable doing. Are you under the care of a general practitioner doctor? Why did you leave the Pain Clinic? How can we support you. I'm so sorry you are in such pain. I hope to hear from you soon.

My goodness, something I didn’t know. I can’t be called a “know it all” anymore. So do you know if it is the THC that relieves pain? I read but don’t know if it’s true that THC has to be burned to create the high. This is such a complicated issue more than I’ll ever understand.
I live in Colorado where MJ is legal and I have CBD oil to rub onto sore spots. In the shop where I bought it, I questioned them closely. It seems any marijuana product has at least a low level of THC which causes the high. My CBD oil doesn’t make me high but it does relieve pain. Too bad this info isn’t readily available to everyone. I’m retired Rehab Meds so I’m very cautious as to what I take. @marylou705
@marylou75 do you know anything about the drops?I'm a retired LPN
I have a friend who likes the drops and I thought I might try them too. The suppliers here all have to be licensed so they have to supply you with the info you want. She seems to like the drops and says she doesn’t get high. She’s out of town at the moment but I’ll ask her to take me to the shop again. At the moment I’m banned from driving due to a mild stroke I had in January. I’m walking with a walker for now and going to PT and OT. As an aside, we have rescue animals and our 18 year old rescued Siamese gets two drops a day in her food! She has hyperthroidism. She sure is feisty for 4 lbs and 18 years olf!! @marylou
