Compare Eliquis and Xarelto, regarding muscle weakness and other side
My cardiologist is suggesting I switch to Xarelto since I am having a lot of muscle weakness effects from Eliquis. But, in my reading about Xarelto, it seems to have MORE side effects of muscle weakness as well as other side effects. What are your experiences?

My cardiologist switched me from Eliquis to Xarelto over a year ago because it was more affordable. I've experienced no side effects (that I am aware of) from the Xarelto, plus I only take it once a day. I believe Eliquis is taken twice a day. That's been my experience. Your body may respond differently.
I had a blood clot and put on Eliquis. After 45 days and the joint pain I was switched to Xarelto Unfortunately I have found Xarelto to be just as bad if not worse, been on it for 30 days. I am to take the blood thinner medication for 3 months. Can I switch back to Eliquis since I am only to take it two more weeks, still have some left. This medication makes me feel horrible. And I don't know when or how the blood clot will be gone
I’m not a doctor. Why not call yours?
I have talked to my surgeon and primary doctor - I was stating this to see if others have had same problems and what they did to change things. So far I am having no luck getting something to make me feel better - hope this explains what I was asking, not looking for someone as a doctor on this site.
@lgirl I understand now. I have not switched meds as yet, although I might be switching to xarelto. I find it all very confusing and the doctors seem limited in their knowledge concerning side effects, especially the less common ones.
I have gone back to Eliquis yesterday since the Xarelto made things worse. My surgeon wants me to see a Hematologist to figure out this medication and what different I could take that does not cause the joint pain.
@devotion I agree but drs are under the gun financially as are every one . It’s incumbent on us patients to know as much as possible about our individual problems as drs don’t have time to spend with us in detail about our individual situation. You must engage in your treatment.
I’ve read a lot and the consensus is that Elliquis is better with respect to bleeding problems than Xaralto. Don’t accept my opinion do your research
I have done lots of research on this subject. Since I have taken Eliquis and Xarelto. Back on Eliquis since Xarelto made my joints hurt worse. I am still waiting on a Hematologist appointment to get something different. I have been on one or the other for right at 3 months and it has been tough.
In recent days I’ve dug into the supposed benefits of OACs for those who have undergone Ablation. There are now several studies which cast doubt on OACs being any more effective at preventing strokes than Aspirin or Placebo inpatients who had an Ablation and don’t fit the high stroke risk profile - OCEAN, PLAN-AF, et al. One of the subtle things that came from my reading is that some research has shown that Elliquis is better at preventing major bleeds than Xaralto. Suggest you research some and talk with your Cardiologist/ EP.
