Best serious anxiety medication?

I wanted everyone's thought on what med works good for they're aniexty ?I bounce off the walls with thoughts of bad things. Been on Zoloft for years. Finally have a new doctors appointment on Monday. Old doctor just wasn't cutting it. Just wanted to make me keep doing same stuff I've been doing for 15 years. It doesn't work no more. I have a hard time all day and night. And falling asleep is terrible.

The med that REALLY works for me is Clonazepam. Years ago, it came in dissolving wafer tablets which I took at the onset of anxiety or "panic." I have a "generalized anxiety disorder." (GAD) Of course, like all these type meds, you can't consume alcohol.

@sboylenotthesinger I never noticed (or heard the warning) any side effect when I consume alcohol (1 beer, plus sometimes one glass of wine) with dinner. I take my clonazepam 2 mg before bedtime at about 11:30 PM.

Sorry for what you're going through Scott.

I've been on Paxil for 20 plus years and it seems to work. But everyone is different and only a Dr should guide a patient in drug selection.

As for non-drug methods - talk therapy has been helpful for me as well as cardio exercise.

I hope you find something to help you feel better.

I grew up ADHD, used Ritalin in college, tapered off after 3 years with the help of a therapist and knowing my triggers when my mind wandered.
Now I struggle with anxiety and rather than med, a new therapist prescribed the Alpha Stim. Unfortunately insurance does not cover since its not a drug. This device is amazing for anxiety, but also helps with insomnia and depression. I use the device when my mind is scattered, but not daily.

I am coming off Lexapro to try Prozac. Has anyone had success with this drug? I have no depression, just long-standing anxiety attacks.

@annedodrill44 Very sorry. And sorry that many prescribe a slow-acting anti-depressant like the ones you mentioned thinking they are going to help at all short-term, or even long-term depending on your suffering. Doctors I feel are spooked at prescribing the likes of Xanax and similar, even short-term. I think being pressured by know-nothing politicians and self-seeming “give-me-a-cause” crusaders nipping at their pants legs.

@hopeseeker22 I agree about Prozac. For me, at least, it was like sugar pills. Can’t understand why there’s a return to “Valley of the Dolls”-type med after all these years.
