Shocked by aging process
My fingernails and toenails stopped growing and just keep breaking off. My hair is falling out. My memory is not as sharp and sometimes I feel a little woozy. I hate this. I want my body and my senses back.

Thank you. I will.
Wow! Sounds like maybe a thyroid issue? I suggest seeing your doctor, that's kind of fast for an aging problem, most of us have it come on slow thru the years. "An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) causes a slowed metabolism, leading to common symptoms like persistent fatigue, unexpected weight gain, cold intolerance, constipation, and dry skin. Other signs include hair loss, brittle nails, muscle aches, depression, and memory issues. Symptoms develop slowly, often over years, and are treated with daily medication."

2 ReactionsThank you. I will check.
Focusing on what you can do is key! Just read the new book, The Other Side of Change, Who We Become When Life Makes Other Plans. The process is the same, no matter age and how many events you experience.

6 Reactions@retirement75 I love the title of that book and will get it, and read it. I am currently reading Project Hail Mary and want to finish it before the movie with that hunky Ryan Gosling comes out. See, the fun I can have at 72 :)!

8 Reactions75 and have been to Mayo for a blissful, life lengthening surgery. I could be morose. I am not. Sparing details let me say "this about that".
FORCE YOURSELF TO WALK! If you hurt, walk. If progeny screw up, walk. If you can't figure out a crossword on in paper or from someone, walk. Treadmill, living room, steps it all counts.
Get your monitor on your phone and with it in your pocket, walk.
You will be goaded to finish whatever goal you set.
WALK!

Finally! Someone who agrees with me about walking! After my cervical cord surgery, I asked my spine surgeon his suggestion for physical therapy. He said, WALK and then walk some more. It has been my experience also that if you are in pain, walk some more! Just yesterday I was grocery shopping while my left hip and right knee were acting up. Immediately I was thinking I needed to cut my shopping short and go home. But I dismissed that idea, added walking in a couple more aisles and suddenly, the pains were gone. I went to another store to walk! Walking can also help your brain talk to the rest of your body. Walk.

Hi, Cath! Saw your profile.
You may have MORE than "one last" act to go. Maybe the current one is just "one" of many additonal ones yet to come.
All the best!

7 Reactions@morironman I live in New Jersey. We had a foot of snow which is now almost ice. The mornings start with single digits and get into the 20’s.
I get out in the morning for a short walk with my cane for extra support. That helps reset my mind.
This morning after the walk, I removed more snow from the car, Shoveled a little snow. Hassled to get enough snow away from the yard gate so I could open it. Filled the bird feeders.
A few small projects to do so that the day is productive.

13 ReactionsI have not found any resources that explain the aging process in clear, concise manner. Almost every thing that happens to our bodies is probably “normal ‘ yet readily accessible information would help in cutting down on the shock that accompanies aging. I firmly believe the shock is something which keeps older people isolated..whether the isolation is voluntary or initiated by others. FWIW
