Sounds like you are getting the trial. The top rated SCS is Boston Scientific’s Wave writer (rider?). They will carefully insert the lead(s) into the intrathecal space. Then the lead will get connected to an external battery pack. The goal is to get at least 50% pain reduction. I guess you’ll wear it for a couple of days. Just be careful to not bend very much. No reaching up over your head. You don’t want to move that lead in your back. Make sure you are getting the pain relief you want. Not likely to get 100% relit. I went from about a 7 to about a 2/3.
Wish you well.

I'm supossed to get the trial one implanted soon, I have to find out which kind. They didn't tell me there were different kinds...this is a nightmare!
@jimhd That's not good, Jim. I had the Medtronic scs implanted in 2018. It worked well for two and a half years. It just stopped working one day. I had the battery replaced with another company's battery. No good. That's what led them to believe that the paddle lead had shorted out. I had the whole thing removed back in 2024. Currently, I have a pain pump which has not ever given me any relief. Ah, the wonder of modern medicine... I wonder if and when I will ever get some help. LOL.
@heisenberg34 I had a rechargeable battery put in last year, but it didn't help. Just another surgery, and it's a bit of a nuisance keeping it charged every few weeks. My scs is an Abbott.
I saw a foot and ankle specialist today who's ordered orthotic inserts. They're more for my gait that was messed up after bilateral Achilles tendon ruptures, but maybe they'll help with the PN. He also did a shockwave treatment to see if it helps with the pain. We shall see. It's still experimental, and usually very expensive, but he isn't charging me for it because he's doing it as much for his own interest as anything.

@gbguillo74 that sounds encouraging however the pain is controlled but the root cause of the neuropathy still exists, do you do anything to address that root cause?

@jimhd Have adhesive Arachnoiditis, long time & it's extremely awful I have severe pain from top of my neck down my entire spinal cord. I am fused from C3 thru my sacrum. I seem to be resistant to oxycodone. I get 10 MG every 6 hours. It really has MINIMAL affect. It's progressive & has destroyed last 26 plus years. Was completely paralyzed & I have total numbness & severe paresthesia down both legs ( from knee to toes) Also, now have bowel Incontinence ( as many as 7 to 8 times a day. My kidneys are poor & i am now broke & on Medicare & Medicaid. Had an RN BS & also masters in Health Care Administration Any suggestions on Bowel, severe constipation?? alternating with incontinence ? Plus I'm stuck , sometimes, having multiple Accidents & my fused spine, makes anything to do with this, a nightmare. I've got Relistor (for opioid induced constipation. Take MiraLAX & drink tons of water & etc... Because of adhesive Arachnoiditis, nothing works.. My fusion, makes it very hard, but i use enemas too I had wanted to do trial of pain pump. But i have severe rotator cuff issues, need a new shoulder etc... Any advice for relief constipation? Have tried lot's OTC
@blowerk1216 any other specific drugs for constipation. The 10 MG Oxy 4 times a day, plus the extreme pain over lumbosacral region, makes it very difficult etc Feel like a stuffed, bloated, ....When it swings over to bowel incontinence, i can't clean my self up & very dicey to go out in public. i have lost most of the feeling in my lower GI..... So i can't hold stool Overall, it's beyond a nightmare. My GI referral got messed up Too many snow birds here. Because of my fusion, i have much difficulty cleaning up & etc...I'm very depressed, but too many obstacles. But I'm trying to get help. Waitime for neuro, is at least 6 months Know it's futile, but i take senior fitness, chair yoga, have 1 to 1 with instructor. I used to be a work out junkie, was extremely active. but titanium makes everything extra difficult. Have a good PHD counselor.. My pain level is too high, i have to lay on my back, not able to turn over, bend etc.. Looking for a friend as well as advertise Have no real family or people able to assist. Thanks Lauren
@heisenberg34 yes I have the initial consult on Feb 19

The Boston Scientific Wave Writer is thought to be the best

1 Reaction@gbguillo74 That’s great. When they work, it’s like a small miracle.
