Has anyone treated their osteoporosis without drugs?
Hello all … I am a 68 y/o lady, 5’1 and 115lbs. I have always been petite and of small stature. I recently went to a new physician who ran a battery of tests on me, which all came back great, except for my Dexa scan which came back with a T score of -3.8. The physician immediately wanted to write me a script for Fosamax. After reading about it, I am freaked out. Here’s a bit of background on me. I have never smoked, don’t drink and am fairly active. I still work part-time and love being active. Have any of you tried to combat osteoporosis from a “natural” healing angle? I have NEVER taken any meds, gosh I never even have the need for aspirin, as I don’t experience headaches. Looking for some input from actual people. It’s way too easy for a physician to write a script as I truly believe they are in cahoots with the pharmaceutical industry. My apologies if I have upset anyone. Any information, experience or feedback you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading my post.

@melia7 Yes. They did improve the jaw bone density a little.
@yds Yes, I had returned to Prolia and was concerned about my -4 Dexascan results. So I changed my Caltrate to Bone-Up. Caltrate comes from stone and Bone-Up comes from cow bones, and is more easily absorbed. Caltrate builds up in your arteries, but Calcium citrate and the type in Bone-Up do not.
@dbivins , thank you for your response. I thought that maybe you achieved improvements in your bone density without any of the osteoporosis drugs, and just Bone-up, diet, and exercise.
It's definitely possible to improve bone density with diet, exercise and vitamins, especially Vit D and calcium. Check out Dr. Doug Lucas on YouTube. Search the internet for a lot more information. It's not magic it's science.

Yes, you can improve your bone density without medication. The question is, how much improvement do you need? If your T-score is something like -4.0, you need meds. No vitamins, no exercise is going to get you out of that hole. If your score is -2.5, then sure, you can first try other methods before resorting to meds.

2 Reactions@louise1963 some people like collagen, but some can’t take it due to other health conditions/meds… maybe, clear with your doc to be sure.
@njx58 that’s just I am doing…possible that prior treatments might have caused some of it….each of us does our own research and set up our own new routines, with special care about balance, and paying better attention wherever we are.

1 Reaction@njx58 actually that’s not quite true in my case. My dexascan score was -4.5 at lumbar spine. However I am very small framed with no history of fractures ? Aged 75 yrs female . Been fit all my life . No history of fractures in mother or sibling. My surgeon recently performed L4/5 spinal fusion and told me my bones were strong !! I am eight weeks post op. I take fortibone and eat sensibly plus small calcium but D supplement. Can’t exercise at moment due to op . I still have fingers crossed but am hopeful .
