Lexapro withdrawal
I am currently weening from 10 mg lexapro after 15 years of being on the drug. I was put on this drug due to post partum. Having a difficult time getting into psychiatrist due to wait list. I've been weening for 2months and taking .5 instead of 10 mg daily. I was doing fine until 2 weeks ago when severe anxiety hit, no appetite, flu like symptoms and very emotional. Doctor prescribed xanax to help with anxiety and I take only as needed but honestly I'm afraid to take another drug. I see an phych nurse this week and a holistic doctor as well. Taking a multi vitamin, fish oi, B12 and vitamin D as well. I'm trying to figure out if my severe anxiety is due to withdrawal or if I'm prone to anxiety attacks because I've never had anxiety before.

Just found out my creative level are high, nd my GFR is 34. Down from 64. Stage 3B kidney disease. Lexipro could be responsible.
My body is not particularly hospitable to Metformin....(I take it for the remnants of PCOS)...my endocrinologist put me on Glumetza which was significantly better -- alas - even as a generic, it is tough to get coverage because the price is so high. Glumetza is terrific because it stays in your stomach for 24 hours and is metabolized differently....solved all the nasty side effects I get from regular Metformin XR.
Do you think I can get thru this? I am still doing 5 mg of Lexipro a day, and already I am annoyed, crying and very tired. Of course, my blood sugar is very low right now so that might be contributing to this. I could use some encouragement. I’m also worried about what will I be like without an antidepressant. So scared!
Hi -I was on Lexapro for about 10 weeks-10 mg/day-trying to ween myself off it-doc told me to cut in half for4 days and the 5 mg every other day-since I have been off this my symptoms and anxiety have increase, insomnia, loss of appetite, don’t want to leave the house, irritable, loss of interest in everything, can’t relax , pain in the middle of me shoulder blades and extreme high blood pressure , which I never had before) I am taking 300 mg of fish oil day, vitamin B-12 and vitamin D-3. Also taking Xanax (approx .50-.75 mg daily to help. I feel like I’m going CRAZY-not myself at all-don’t tell me to go back on the Lexapro cause it did nothing for me to begin with that is why I am getting off. PLEASE HELP—any suggestions greatly welcomes
I’m so sorry you’re going thru this. Your symptoms are exactly what I was experiencing. I never left the house, no interest in things, etc. come to find out I was over medicated on top of my severe depression. I finally found a psychiatrist who looked at me and said You’re a mess! You’re totally over medicated! He weaned me off 3 meds, one being Lexapro. He started me on Cymbalta. It’s a night and day difference! I also take Remeron but I’m going off it due to weight gain and severe hunger feelings. What meds have you tried? I’m not going to sit here and tell you to go outside, read a book, etc. Those people who told me that drove me crazy! I will tell you I’m here to chat anytime you need to.
I appreciate that so much. Do you feel better now? The thing is I will not be able to go on any other meds because of the blood sugar issues. I am so scared and so down, I don’t know what to do. Everyone else that gets off of Lexipro seems to go on something else, but that won’t work for me.
I do have Clonidine wondering if anyone tried that for withdrawal?
Do you think I will be ok?
Go to a regular Dr or a homeopath dr and have them check your thyroid & hormones. Look up Kelly brogan & read her blog. You may have a medical condition causing the depression and not actual depression. Do you ever exercise. I can’t get through life without exercising. It clears my head and decreases my anxiety. Also, watch out for inflammatory foods like sugar, gluten, diary. Don’t drink more than a cup of coffee a day. Eat your red meat... hope this helps!
I sure hope so. I do feel so much better now. To control my sugars I eat small meals during the day and try to get a lot of protein. My morning smoothie is excellent. Get your sugars under control and that should help. I have thyroid issues that add to my depression. Have they checked yours? I’m also deficient in Vit D. Your body does strange things when not fed properly.
