Lexapro withdrawal
I am currently weening from 10 mg lexapro after 15 years of being on the drug. I was put on this drug due to post partum. Having a difficult time getting into psychiatrist due to wait list. I've been weening for 2months and taking .5 instead of 10 mg daily. I was doing fine until 2 weeks ago when severe anxiety hit, no appetite, flu like symptoms and very emotional. Doctor prescribed xanax to help with anxiety and I take only as needed but honestly I'm afraid to take another drug. I see an phych nurse this week and a holistic doctor as well. Taking a multi vitamin, fish oi, B12 and vitamin D as well. I'm trying to figure out if my severe anxiety is due to withdrawal or if I'm prone to anxiety attacks because I've never had anxiety before.

I guess I am weaning too fast, but I cannot live with constant low blood sugars either.
Those aren’t fun I know. Try and snack a little more often. Maybe do 6 small meals a day instead of 3 larger ones. Hang in there!
Thank you. That’s what I’m doing but just as fast as I eat, it drops down again. Can I really do this. All I want to do is cry today and I am so tired I can barely stand. Could take care of my special needs son this morning, my husband did it. Is this normal?
I don’t know if it’s normal. Maybe call your diabetes dr and see if you need to up your insulin. Are you taking a new medication in place of the Lexapro?
I’m not on insulin, but metforimwhich I had to stop because my sugar is too low not high!
I would give your diabetes doctor a call. I also take Metformin. Did your dr advise you to quit taking it? My body wouldn’t adjust well. Get in touch with him today and explain you’re weaning off Lexapro. He would know what’s best. I had to evacuate due to the hurricane so my sugars will be crazy due to stress but I’m glad we’re safe.
I’m sorry you had to evacuate from this crazy storm. Glad you are safe. My Dr knows I am weaning, he said it’s not necessary to wean, just stop. No, I’m not doing that. Yes, he said with sugars in the 60’s because of Lexipro, don’t take metformin. That would bottom me out. Stay safe!
I’m glad you’re in touch with him. You take care!
Hi, @johne2002 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'm really sorry to hear about the experience with your friend and that he has not talked to you since. Ouch.
Good for you for getting some help with your addictions and staying clean for the last almost 5 months. Rooting for you to stay that way.
Other members have talked about stopping an antidepressant or antianxiety medication, then restarting and not feeling the same results. I'm hoping that members in this escitalopram (Lexapro) withdrawal discussion like @annedodrill44 @mommabird74 @kdo0827 may have some thoughts for you with having extreme depression now and how to proceed. I'm thinking that @parus and @gailb may also have some insights.
@johne2002 - what has your doctor said about coming off and going back on the escitalopram (Lexapro) and the depression you are experiencing?
Hi johne2002
I recently weaned off Lexapro. I now take Cymbalta and Remeron. I sure like that I’m feeling better and more like my old self. I am however struggling with a good amount of weight gain from the Remeron and that depresses me as I struggle with weight as it is. My psychiatrist is weaning me off the Remeron. I was supposed to see him on Tuesday but we evacuated from the hurricane. I’m afraid I won’t feel as good without the Remeron but I can’t continue to gain weight. What meds have you tried? I totally understand deep depression and will be happy to chat anytime.
