Turmeric as an anti-inflammatory
I'm wondering if anyone is taking turmeric supplements as an anti-inflammatory agent for their bronchiectasis. It's reported to be helpful to counteract inflammation elsewhere in the body but I don't know if it would be effective in the lungs. If you know of or heard of any info on this I'd appreciate your sharing with us. Thanks!

So glad you mentioned the pepper. I have read from several sources that turmeric is more effective when combined with peppers. My Indian friends use the combination all the time in their food. I too like it in my lentil soup. There are also teas that have the combination.
@mmahlik ,
I have read ingredients and can not see block pepper listed. Is it another name in the ingredients?
Thanks arvin
@arv10 Often pepper is listed among the ingredients as peperin. If it is missing, I would pass on that brand.
CAUTION: If you take blood thinners (including aspirin, Plavix or Warfarin) or you have had blood in your sputum (hemoptysis) or bleed easily, consult your doctor BEFORE using curcumin or turmeric or products containing them. This is experience speaking...

4 Reactions@sueinmn I was taking turmeric before being diagnosed in September 2025. I was prescribed antibiotics (azithromycin, rifampin, and ethambutol 3x/week; the doctor stopped the ethambutol in December). Before taking the antibiotics, I searched for information on negative drug-supplement interactions, and turmeric was one, so I stopped taking it.
But I've also read turmeric can have a beneficial synergistic effect when taken while on antibiotics (NIH paper from 2021). So perhaps the caution regarding interactions was from an overly risk-averse perspective-can't recall where I read it. Perhaps taking turmeric on days when I'm not taking antibiotics would be helpful.
@rc4mc You could do a deeper dive, but the interaction checker my Pharmacist user calls it a risk with Azithromycin.

Yup! Back a long time ago, I accidentally had a run-in with an immersion blender (I had just come back from a really long run and plead runner's brain for not unplugging it first before cleaning it). When at the ER to get the end of my finger stitched up, the doc asked me if I was on blood thinners because of the trouble he was having getting it to stop bleeding. I told him no, but I was taking turmeric, which I was for joint inflammation from hard training. He said that would definitely do it -- and I wasn't even taking a very large dose and I wasn't on any blood thinners!
