Neuropathy Pain at Night: What helps?

Posted by Donald @donfeld, Jun 8, 2020

THC or marijuana for me relieves pain from neuropathy. It works every time takes a few minutes and a few puffs of smoke and it comes it down for some crazy reason that makes this drug so popular.

I use a THC cream. My feet go their happy place, and stops the burning/stabbing. It's expensive, so i only use it when it's really bad. The rest of the time, I use carts. 85% works good for me.

Hi Vice, can you provide more details about the THC cream you use please? Is it THC/CBD or just THC? And what is the ratio of THC to cream? I use Edibles to help getting some sleep, but it is not effective throughout the night.

Hey,
try this recipe. https://www.kristinarisola.com/blog/2018/10/16/cannabis-pain-relief-topical-salve-recipe (i googled so you can maybe find other recipes. I like easy ones. 🙂
You can change out what you want and add different oils for smells and such. I use lavender oil, grapeseed oil, tea tree oil and coconut oil. I haven't tried the Shay butter or other, but this looks like it is a good recipe. I also use RSO, which is in a syringe, 1gm. @ 87% potentcy (you heat it a bit with a bic lighter to make the Thc easier to get out of the syringe)
It's sticky, but when it's mixed together with the other ingredients, it incorporates nicely.
coconut oil is similar consistency of crisco (fyi)

Good Luck. Hope it helps your neuropathy too!

@donfeld Hi Don. I'm sorry to hear of your problematic and painful feet. Thanks @johnbishop for including me in the conversation. I feel that I'm separated from the traditional foot neuropathy group as my neuropathy is wide spread without central location at this point. Last year I had ample trouble with my feet but, they've settled, except for discomfort while wearing snug footwear or becoming frozen and turning purple. Also, occasional jolting toe joint pain.

During my time last year with my feet...Epsom cool water soaks, slides or fleece lined slippers (1 size larger)
and elevation. When my feet were swelling, turning bright red and felt on fire internally as well as sunburned externally...cool air, fans and nothing touching them.

I took and still take hydrocodone (Norco) for pain and use medical marijuana as back up when hydro doesn't cut it. I agree with @jimhd that MM is too expensive! I could not afford the tiny tubs of topicals nor, was it going to cover my whole body of painful sites. The oil under tongue has been helpful and at times I use it frequently but otherwise sparingly because hydro is much cheaper for my budget.

Ironically, I just got of the phone with my Dad who has diabetic foot neuropathy. His Dr recently gave him muscle relaxers for his painful feet. He says they help him fall asleep and quiet the pain. His feelings are that his skin is being ripped apart and as though sandpaper is being rubbed across his feet. They get red, shiney and swollen. My Dad does not control his eating habits well and pays the price as a result.

I wonder if you take helpful supplements for neuropathy, eat a proper diet or perhaps utilize myofacial release therapy?

This is tough stuff, this neuropathy. I wish you well and to find better comfort. Best of luck sir.
Rachel

@rwinney my neuropathy is started in my feet and it's in my calves and it had been in my upper legs and in an achy way from the beginning it doesn't burn like my feet I have complication from the interview dish that I actually had at the beginning so I don't know I have diabetes and my doctor says it's PDN that I've been very interested in going to Loma Linda neuropathy Clinic and they have non-invasive Treatment available that they say gets really good results and helping the nerves to stay alive most of the day other treatments that I'm aware of I've been on pain medication and all I've heard is that they let the nerves die

@cceberk1942 I've been having a lot of side effects from pregabalin which is Lyrica generic I tried Duloxetine and it kept me up Wide Awake wired all night so I'm been kept on break have one after I went as high as I could go on gabapentin they all just numb the pain which is very thankful but at the same time if the nerves keep dying and you start having a lesions or other problems like that then you have surgery ahead amputation is possibly Loma Linda neuropathy Clinic has a non-invasive of treatment INF it's supposed to help keep the nerves from dying and they say even rejuvenate some how they've had good success and they have a lot of good success from every views on their website and what they claim to be able to do I've talked to him many times had video calls with them

Everyone has to find their own treatment for neuropathy, I think. I tried everything I could think of short of surgery. Lyrical did not work, nor another bunch of supposed pain killers. Gabapentin. Even some MJ, tramadol, skin puncture, bananas, etc. Finally I read about turmeric. I put about a 1/4 teaspoon of kitchen turmeric in a glass of warm water, drink it easily, and sleep through the night. I only need to use it once or twice per month. If I miss too long, the neuropathy starts again in my feet and hands.

@oldkarl Calgary neuropathy Association in Calgary Canada has a lot of good advice post things about all different aspects of treatment all different time types of doctors and medical people coming on doing webinars and they have a lot to say about the different types of treatment they didn't know anything about Loma Linda's Medical Center neuropathy Clinic that claims really good results and I am praying to go out there I've been hitting some snags that have slowed me down or I would have already been out there to try it

@donfeld, good afternoon, thanks for presenting this discussion of nighttime pain from neuropathy. My goal is to sleep through the early morning pain and the itching.

So....in in addition to my evening tincture of 1:3 CBD/THC.....I add a 2:1 CBD/THC dropper just as I go to bed and I call it my morning insurance policy. I am also now taking Doxepin at bedtime to prevent the itching that has me in a stranglehold these days. I am sure things will change and I will have to adjust.

I just don't like this neuropathy stuff to get a head start on me when it changes direction. I refer to it as my friend "NP" and try to not let this friend get the upper hand.

May you be free of suffering.
Chris

@artscaping I tried to lock chain one night one day and one night and I was wired wide awake all night and when I called and told them they told me to quit taking it so I stayed on the pregabalin that I put on that I was put on after the Gabapentin had reached the ceiling that my doctor recommended of 2700 mg a day it worked 100% for me the only time I had problems with a few times that I forgot to take it at night I would wake up with my feet on fire and my legs aching I have neuropathy clear up past my waist it's my upper legs and I have some places in my back and I can feel it around even my neck and I think my addiction to coffee has been a real problem and irritating the nerves and I used to be a smoker and I drink very heavily and the Lord help me to get away from those things but I still haven't been able to quit drinking coffee even though I've read over and over that caffeine irritates the nerves so anyone out there that knows the Lord please pray for me

I am a relative newbie when it comes to Gabapentin. I am on a pretty low dose of 600mg (100mg in morning, 100mg afternoon and 400mg in evening) which is further complicated by a pain from a pinched/damaged nerve in my lumbar spine which radiates down to my right foot. I had a nerve conductive and continuity test run which called out the pinched/damaged nerve. It is hard for me to tell what pain I am experiencing.
I am a side sleeper and when I lie on the side I have slept on for 40+ years, there is pain and when I lie on my other side (which is hard to do with my multi-year sleep habit) I am pain free. Still don't know how this will be addressed.
For the past 2 nights I have had virtually no neuropathy pain so I hesitate to increase the Gabapentin as I don't want more problems.

Wim Hof breathing technique and cold plunge help my neuropathy. Cold plunge: 38-40 degrees F. 1-4 minutes (I don’t often do 4 minutes in winter)
With these methods I don’t have to use any drugs
