Recently diagnosed with osteoporosis and I am terrified
Hi, I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis in my spine and hips about a month ago and I am now living in fear. I feel like I'm made of glass and I'm afraid to move. I walk around stiffly, afraid to bend, afraid to twist, stepping carefully to avoid falling, scared to drive or ride in a car in case I get in an accident. Note that I am actually doing everything I need to do (taking care of myself and my house, working full time, going out with friends) but I am doing it all in a constant state of anxiety. Every so often I go down a very dark path, mentally, and decide it would be better to just end it before it gets worse. I have been able to talk myself out of it every time, thankfully, by thinking about how sad my family would be without me. Will I be able to get past this and live my life without fear again? I'm 62 and figure I have another 20+ years on this earth. I have been looking forward to spending my final years peacefully, enjoying life but at this rate, that isn't going to happen. Any positive stories or encouragement would be much appreciated!

I am a bit confused trying to understand your current situation.
Are you presently taking Prolia? Is it something you have taken in the past? How long would you stay on Prolia? Is the Reclast suggested as an alternative to Prolia or as a rebound med?
@rjd
Still taking it.
I would not go beyond two shots . Rebound is easier to manage then
I suggested a half dose of reclast for rebound. My endocrinologist said I might be okay having a drug holiday for a bit. My options are limited since I have already had the max on alendronate, forteo and evenity
@rjd
I understand the first observation. I am put off by your remark about the moderator.

1 Reaction@kathleenintexas I hope that you see great results from Evenity. I did I went from -4.6 to -3.3 in the spine.
@gravity3
The doctor hasn’t said what’s after Evenity but I’m thinking Reclasp. probably depends on what my bone density is after the 12 months.

Me too. She is quite a force for helping to educate women and men about osteoporosis.
OsteoBoston has many other YouTube videos.
@lezzzlie I've Been on Prolia for 6 years and still going. YOu ae probably aware that Prolia is not meant to cure-- rather to protect.

4 ReactionsBefore you take a drug for osteoporosis. Make sure your doctor explains what happens when and if you choose to stop it. I wasn’t informed that stopping the drug would literally pull calcium out of my bones…. This time last year I was jogging and working on remodeling projects. I took Prolia for quite a few years. Decided to stop it. Within a year I was having problems with bone pain and then had acute pain in my back which were T 12 and L3 bad fractures. Tests also showed about 6 compression fractures in upper thoracic region which had healed on their own. I had Kypoplasty in June of this year. I lost 3-4 inches in height and continue to have pain in back . Laying or sitting down is worse than standing . I still go to therapy. It also affected my bowels although I was told initially it would not cause that problem. Current meds for that not helping and undergoing more tests. I am a very active person but this has changed my life. My primary doctor has now recommended Evenity . After 12 months I will need to switch to something else. I am 76 years old and no other health issues.
