Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid
Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

I have had 4 Covid shots and have had Covid 4 times. The first time was Sept 2020. I have had copious amounts of mucus since and post nasal drip. I have taken Mucinex, Fexofedadine, Azelastin nasal spray with minimum results. I have had lung and nasal xrays with no visible issue seen. It is frustrating but I just have to live with it. Top this off with constant fatigue.
@suzianne You sound exactly like me. I’ve also tried every med under the sun and had all the tests. Nothing of significance has ever been found and I’ve had this constant issue for 3 years now. Learning to live with it as best I can because there’s nothing else I can do. It’s just awful! I feel your pain, so many of us are dealing with this every day! I wish there was an answer.

1 ReactionI had the same problem for years after Covid. After seeing multiple specialist, I was sent to an allergist to be tested for allergies because I constantly had sinus infections, ear infections, cough, mucus buildup, and loss of my voice or voice cracking.
As the allergist was performing his assessment before testing to see what I was allergic to, he noticed I was coughing alot and that I would loose my voice while talking. He referred me to a voice specialist who found out my constant cough had inflamed my vocal cords. She put my on medication to calm the inflammation which helped with the feeling of something stuck in my throat.
My allergist found a long list of items I am allergic to since Covid. I have been receiving the allergy shots which has helped with alot of the mucus. No more ear or sinus infections since shots started.
I also found out from an ENT that my Salivary Glands would swell and block my swallowing. I began consuming foods that made me mouth water, or mints that produce more saliva. My glands swelling has improved so I can eat more than soft foods.
Just some things that I have found in my 5 years of living with Long Covid that has helped. I am not saying this will work for everyone. I am just saying, listen to your body and find doctors who will listen to you and your symptoms.

4 Reactions@earthangel this is great feedback - thank you for posting!
I have had allergy testing too, both blood serum and prick test, but nothing came up. Did you have another type of panel? I feel like the ones they give in my system are very routine and focus more on trees/pollen than any foods, etc.
Also, I think dehydration has something to do with it - as you were mentioning your salivary glands. I have issues in my throat and mouth and have been wondering recently if it is connected to dehydration, even though my urine is not showing any tell-tale signs of that being the case.

1 Reaction@ronha I had COVID at the end of September 2025, and I think I have long COVID. I have severe Bronchitis with phlegm and a runny nose! Can't get in to see my pulmonary specialist till mid-January, and will go back the third time to my PCP tomorrow. I suffer from headaches and have lost approximately 75% hearing in my right ear! Had an appointment last week with an otolaryngologist, but he cancelled due to taking off for Christmas, and no appointment till mid-January. My coughing is terrible, and PCP put me on steroids twice, as I already have inhalers for asthma, but they didn't help! Getting in cold weather increases all the symptoms. At my wits' end!
I also have the major phlegm issue. I didn’t get covid but I got Long Covid after getting the Pfizer mRNA booster. It seems to be affecting many of my organs including my heart and brain. I’ve had heart surgeries and I get episodes that they can’t explain as cardiac or brain. I feel like I’m under water and can’t move it talk, and have fallen several times. It’s not a stroke or a cardiac event. Every day, I feel weak and tired, and when I eat the phlegm flows and I gag and choke and cough. I’ll try the salt water.
The flem is going through y digestive tract in digested and exiting in my stool …. am i alone in this?
